11 Limited HIDs on an 11 Laredo, Is it plug and play?

Hello,
I have the chance to grab a set of Front HID's headlight assemblys of a totaled 11 WK Limited Is it simply plug and play to install them in my 11 WK Laredo with standard headlights.

Are there any additional fuses that need to be changed.

Thanks,
Frank G

Re: 11 Limited HIDs on an 11 Laredo, Is it plug and play?

the HID lamps have leveling systems etc. that I highly doubt are preinstalled. Having said that...I have an 06 that I added 08-10 HID lamps to. I would guess the headlight harness for the HID lamps is different from the harness on the halogen headlamp laredo. Dont let that stop you though. You MAY be able to use the same process I used on the 06-10 non-HID Grand Cherokees. I just used a simple HID relay harness and connected it to the power and ground for the ballast. I eveen added 9006 headlight plugs to make it plug and play. Now I havent seen the 11+ HID lamps......but I cant see how my process wouldnt work. Check out the Jeep with the HID's and compare the harnesses and get back to us!

Re: 11 Limited HIDs on an 11 Laredo, Is it plug and play?

I have been considering swapping the housings and using an after market ballast to power the bulbs.

It is not plug and play
  • The bixenon housing has a harness that connects under the park/signal light that seems to control the ballast, leveling motors
  • the bixenon has leveling motor while the halogen housing does not
  • The high beam bulb on the halogen lights is different to the bixenon housing
It is not impossible to use the projector housing but I would have to look into seeing if the manual range adjuster from the halogen housing can be swapped into the bixenon housing.

Then I would see about swapping the plug for the DRL/Flash to pass bulb as I would still use that as a high beam bulb.

I gathered this from comparing photos of both types of light housing posted on ebay.

so if you can get the housing and most of the harness from the totalled donor you could come up with a workable retrofit of Xenon or Bi xenon on your laredo.

My vision is to have a conversion that is reversible or that requires the least amount of modification to my car, and with a little hands-on research I will devise something, I just need a bixenon housing so I can strip it down.

I stopped by a body shop yesterday for and estimate and they were doing some collision repair on a 2011 Overland, so I offered the shop $50 for a damaged bixenon housing the body man told me I can come pick one up in a couple days.

Heck get the parts anyway I would buy them off of you.

Re: 11 Limited HIDs on an 11 Laredo, Is it plug and play?

Well - I'm new here. I just swapped my Commander for a GC which I only drive in the winter as an extra car when it snows.

I put 2010 HIDs on my 2008 Commander and it worked out great but wasn't a simple project. But I bet it will be nearly identical for the install on the GC.

I already bought a stock pair of GC projector beam HID's and will try to install them this week in my Laredo X.

Here is my step by step summary from the Commander forum. I will post more pictures when I start the project and have some free time.
