12 V Outlet in Centre Arm Rest

The 12 V outlet in the centre arm rest is always on for some odd reason. I wanted to use this to plug my dash cam but it would drain the battery over time.

Anyone using this always on power source for something?

Could it be converted to power off like the 12 V in the centre console?

That outlet is customer selectable. Check fuse 90/91. One side powers it always and the other is via RUN cycle.

Re: 12 V Outlet in Centre Arm Rest

The manual for the 2015 JGC states fuse fuse 90/91 is for the rear quarter panel 12 V by the hatch.

Unfortunately the one I need is the centre arm rest bin which is fuse 104 and isn't selectable. They should have just made all fuses selectable.

So it appears I have no option for this?

Use the outlet in the media area.

Yeah that's my current setup. Just sucks that I can't close the media area now with a wire sticking out.

If you're adventurous you could probably pull apart the center console and switch the two wires running to the 12 V power adapters you may need to splice or extend the wires

That is a constant 12v outlet. You can use a 12v USB power outlet to get your 5v. I use a dual one to charge phones.

Re: 12 V Outlet in Centre Arm Rest

Is there any downside to keeping a charger (just the charger, not the phone) plugged into an always-on 12V outlet like that? I notice the ones with lights stay lit, so they're drawing at least some minimal amount of power even when the phone is not connected.

I just did tests on some 12v USB chargers (single and double). They seem to draw minimal or no current. The double (no LED) had NO current draw when no USB is connected. A single (with LED) was drawing 14mA, which is mostly the LED current. Another single (with LED) showed 12mA. This minimal current may drain your battery after a year or 2 of not running (drainage will not be an issue).

Ideally it would be best to have them unplugged in case the unit goes faulty whilst plugged in, although this would be rare.
