Re: '14 Laredo DIY: Front-lower-bumper-chrome insert

Bought this part yesterday. All up 70 dollars. was planning on having the dealer install it while getting the 1000k inspection but was told it could cost up to 140 dollars!

Will do it myself tomorrow

Re: '14 Laredo DIY: Front-lower-bumper-chrome insert

Ok, I just was able to buy part#68141939ac and was sent to my house. Is this something that i can do by myself of should I let a body shop install it? Is there anything that I can mess up, or is it just a PITA?
I wish there was a video someone could send me
Thanks

So, first you'll need to head to your local dealer and order the chrome insert. Cost me $18.86 at the parts counter. That's right. I'm pretty sure mopar screwed themself with this price tag. Apparently a similar piece for the '11-'13 costs $180... Hmm...

Anyway let's get started;
No need to Jack the vehicle up. Just make sure you're willing to roll around on whatever surface you're parked upon.
You'll simply need a standard flat head screw driver... and yep, that's it.
First remove the 5 quarter turn fasteners and about 7 (I think) push pin fasteners. (This is also a great time to remove the front aero mud guard things in front of each wheel well (if that's your fancy)) so here is the before pic, pic of the insert and pin removal.

Now get a good light and shove it up behind the bumper

Attachment 25978

You can use the flat head to pry out these metal clips (2 on each side

Attachment 25980

Then work your fingers around to pop out the top of the original insert

Now you'll need the flat head again to pry upward on the inset tabs that lock into the insert's lower tabs... if that makes sense.

Attachment 25984

Should be 5 of these PITA tabs across the bottom. You can work from the front and up under the bumper. This air flow redirector is pretty much all up in your way and will piss you off. Just work around it or rip it out lol.

Attachment 25986

Just visualize that all tabs are good to go, then boom, it's off!

Attachment 25990

Now destroy the sensation in your finger tips by releasing all tabs and metal clips. Be careful as not to rip out the inner grille in haste. Some of the clips have to be depressed simultaneously as others in order to be pulled out.

Now your favorite part of the DIY where I say, "just reverse your steps and viola!"
