Why not just place a strategic small piece of electrical tape over the circuit board contacts?

Reversible if you ever want to sell the vehicle.

If you look at the PCB you'll see that doesn't really work. The individual switches are enclosed components. The external rubber/plastic "button" contacts the switch button. To interrupt the switch requires destroying the switch or desoldering it.

I gave my fob a panic button vasectomy. These other approaches are panic button condoms. Different means to accomplish the same goal, with differing levels of permanence.

The easy way to do it is to open the fob and remove the small metal contact between the button and the circuit. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1443989297.102986.jpg

This picture is for the old fob.
For 2014 and up I guess it is the same.

Unfortunately, that's not correct. There's nothing to pare off on the 2014+, which again is what this thread was started to discuss.

Heh, well I could reverse it by soldering in a replacement switch if I took leave of my senses and decided I wanted random panic activations again. The odds of that happening are indistinguishable from zero.

As it stands I am quite happy with the outcome. I would do it again exactly the same way in a heartbeat.

I didn't understand how anyone could accidentally trigger the panic button, since it had never happened to me in over a year of ownership. But about two weeks ago, with the fob in my pocket, the panic button was somehow activated. Of course it was about midnight, in a quiet cul-de-sac, and it seemed to take ages to pull out the fob and turn off the alarm. Like you, I can't imagine ever actively choosing to press the panic button, but I had presumed I could just ignore it.

I should have disabled the panic button when I had the fob open about six months ago. My partner had somehow put my fob through a full cycle in the washing machine. I opened the fob and gave it a couple days to thoroughly dry out. To my surprise and delight, it has since worked flawlessly.

I too would like to disable this useless button (permanent or not, I do not care). More explicit instructions would be greatly appreciated.

If you have a 2014+ fob then accessing the button is straightforward: everything pries apart for disassembly (gently). Follow the same basic procedure to change the fob battery, by removing the glove compartment key and prying the fob open. When you have the fob open the circuit board will be exposed. It's just held in alignment by a few tiny plastic pegs, so you can gently pry it off the pegs with a small screwdriver. Flip the circuit board over and you'll see the buttons.

At that point it becomes Choose Your Own Adventure in terms of what you wish to do to the panic button.

Re: 2014 WK2 fob panic button disable

I've had a lot of false triggering of the fob panic button in my pocket, so I read with great interest the ingenious fixes offered in this thread. I also learned that the remote start could also be falsely triggered, which goes way beyond a nuisance to something that could be deadly in a house with a garage in the basement.
I came up with a different approach for a fob fix that uses the leather from a key ring that FCA was kind enough to send me a couple of months after I bought the Jeep.
The key ring was readily removed (there's a small Phillips screw pin similar the pins that hold a watch band to the watch), and the leather was attached to the key fob with a plastic wire tie. (See pics) The leather is also a nice fit for the fob.
When the leather is down it shields the buttons from being accidently pressed. When the leather is up, the buttons are available for normal use.
Since I just did it tonight, I'll let you know in a week or two how it's working.

Nice key ring.. I want one!

It'll be nice to know if it's annoying in the long run.

Re: 2014 WK2 fob panic button disable

Let's see, I have had the hatch open on me and scratch itself inside the garage and the panic button has gone off about 2 or 3 times. I think I need a fob, or bigger pockets lol.
