Re: 8k mile oil change

I was talked into purchasing Scheduled Maintenance Care with my 2012 Overland. My plan says oil changes every 3 months or 4,000 miles. A little over 2 months of ownership and I'm at 2007 miles.

I'm still taking her in for an oil change at the end of the month since it's prepaid for. If I went by the owners manual I'd probably only get 1 oil change a year. If they tell me otherwise I'm cancelling the scheduled maintenance plan.

Re: 8k mile oil change

You would have to change it atleast twice a year if you followed the owners manual (every 6 months or 8000 miles, whatever comes first).

Re: 8k mile oil change

I do my own... Way too much risk that some 7.50 an hour car washer is gonna do my oil change. I had a dodge dealer put the WRONG oil in my truck, then argued with me about it. I showed him right in the owners manual and he told me he was right. Do it yourself.. Free oil changes are just that ...FREE...the dealer is going to use the cheapest oil, and the lowest price filter he can get his hands on. Bulk oil??? NOT!

Re: 8k mile oil change

$80 for synthetic. 1st change at 3500 miles (the EVIC went off at 3500 miles on the dot...hmmm...). Dealer said 8000 miles or every 6 months is the interval. So I will be doing the every 6 months routine since I only put on about 10K miles per year.

Re: 8k mile oil change

Changed mine at 2000 miles last night. Cut open the oil filter and inspected it. To my suprise there was only very small pieces of metal in the filter. I actually thought there would be more as well as a few pieces of large stuff.

Re: 8k mile oil change

My first "Oil Change Due" indicator came on at 7,555 miles. I had a coupon for a free oil change and filter from the dealership service department. The service technician failed to reset the oil change indicator. When I pointed it out to him, he had to have someone else from the department show him how to do it. I won't be back.

Agree. The best place outside the Jeep is under the Jeep.

Re: 8k mile oil change

Did my 8K change yesterday with a Mopar filter and Mobil 1 Extended Performance. Total cost was just under $50 (oil was on sale). I also get lifetime oil changes from the dealer for free, but after utilizing the service for several years on a prior Jeep I have found it quicker/better to do myself. Bought new Rhino ramps rated at 16K since my old ramps were too narrow for my 20s. Very easy oil change. Top mounted oil filter is terrific feature of V6.

If you have QL, just set it to its highest position and change the oil. No need for the ramps.

Nope - don't have QL. Ramps make it really simple although I could have squeezed under without them.
