Does anyone know if it possible to have the 8.4 programed to run OEM heated leather seats in a MY14 that did not come with heated seats?

Doing DD on purchasing OEM leather front / rear seats to replace the cloth seats that are showing wear

Seems as if the seat harness is the same throughout the model line up

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. #68227511AA: WIRING. Power Seat. Tag # D4CW59163N1.

and a harness would be needed to make the rear heated seats to work...

Nope dont want to get Katzkin after market & Yes thinking of trading in on LTD that comes standard with leather

Thanks!

that's funny you posted this, I just picked up some SRT rear seats last weekend and was wanting to hook up the heated seats as well. I was contemplating on where I would mount the switches, if they really need to be in the back of the center console or if I could mount some switches say down near the adjustment handle is. Figured I wouldn't shoot for factory switches and all that just because of the unnecessary costs involved. Was thinking something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Sports-Imports-LLC-Illuminated-Heater/dp/B00F3DW354

some of the salvage sellers sell the center console with the seat sets that has the switches...thats the route i'm looking into.

so did you just get rears or fronts as well? MY14?

my thoughts are the harness connects to the center console and then runs under the carpet to the rear seats. need to get into a LTD, Overland or Summit to see what i can see.

still need to know where that heated seat module is??

Said f it and did it! lol!

Purchased 2014 Summit Leather seats with 5K miles on them. These were shipped well - no damage. Was interested in seeing how salvage co's ship these. Came out of a FCA fleet test vehicle. Rear and passenger seats show absolutely zero wear. Drivers side seat bolster shows typical creasing. Best thing is the smell. Had leather in previous JGC's and dont remember them smelling this sweet. Nice thing about the adding summit seats to a laredo is the seat stitching matches the door panels i.e. non contrast black vs the ltd / overland white.

to be honest i was surprised i never got a green light from anyone on the forum..even if it was a simple "yeah it can be done"..shout out to forum member jadamczyk22 who turned me on to TechAthority and there 3 day membership. That really got the ball rolling.

Once i found out the base laredo body harness had the wiring to feed the heated seat modules it was a no brainer for me. Knew going in the rear seats would never get their heat modules activated without installing at least a Ltd body harness.

after 50K miles the driver was showing some wear on the seat bolster - but still very clean. Wanted factory integration of heat elements and the seamless look of factory vs aftermarket options.

Looked at trading in on a MY16 Ltd with this option but imho nothing really was drastically different in capabilities that "I" was in need of. Have heard good things about the electronic steering and the 8.4 refresh but that wasnt big either imho.

Took me 2 days to complete. Day 1 was removal about 3 1/2 hours by myself. Easiest way to do this (for those that havent done it) start from back and move forward. Remove everything from the cargo area, than the back seats and the front. I just removed the 2 screws holding the front of the spare tire tub to enable that to be lifted in place to remove rear seat screws vs removing the whole thing. You can see in pic #2 the cut in the carpet where the body harness for rear heat would exit.

These did not come with airbags so day 2 started with swapping my airbags out b4 installing the seats. Much easier to do in the comforts of the basement vs the garage. Was a bit hesitant to do the airbags but again not rocket science. Plug n Play lol

Dont need to completely remove seat covers. Remove seat backs and just slide the cover up on out side. That will expose the airbag sleeve and provide access to the two nuts holding the bag in place. Once the screws are removed disconnect the airbag connector and slide out of sleeve (dont cut sleeve). Install is the opposite of removal. ez

airbag codes will be tripped after doing this - dealer can reset

Added the summit steering wheel as well came from same vehicle..again black stitching vs white contrast on other models make it a nice addition. wood grain on wheel and door panels / dash are a perfect match. didnt swap the advanced driver options buttons out. no heat harness installed on my vehicle so thats my summer project.

when the dealer hooked the car up to the WiTech and added the seats we also looked to add the rear ves these seats came with. surprisingly the modules popped up. initially this wasnt even in my plans. the biggest hurdle in adding this is the wiring harness. couldnt source one from the parts department so going with a Durango center console unit instead.

these seats hands down are much more comfortable than the laredos. more firm so the cushion foam used in them has got to be different. i did a 5 hour round trip a couple weeks ago, the same one ive done before with laredo seats and these are noticeably different. sure it could be that they are newer but i think its more than that. really less fatigue after this drive. family has said the same on the passenger side as well and that seat had low miles on it.

CD / DVD / VES connectors. IP mating and center console inline. as you can see in the 1st pic the ip mating is short a few pins. no luck sourcing the an ip wire harness from 8.4 to console inline. so looks like ill have to fabricate a custom harness. as mentioned the dealer has activated the modules since the dvd install (the buttons show up under media on the 8.4 i.e. DVD / HDMI) and said we need a 'Can Bus" connection. Question is how many circuits need to be wired to achieve this. Anyone with knowledge please chime in! My initial thought are X541, X542 and X543 should do the trick. as stated ANYONE who has some knowledge on this please chime in

worth noting is the Blu Ray player has power...i.e. it will except and eject a disc that is inserted

no. the ventilated option did not pop up on via WiTech...however i do believe i verified the body wire harness has the correct wiring that matched up with these seats. ill ask again in another 5K miles..lol

yours is a Ltd model & vented seats were a factory available option so i would assume the dealer "should" be able to activate. Very easy for the service writer to check when you go in for an oil change...under "dealer installed options". however if the modules arent present in the vehicle the option might not pop up.

you shouldn't have to activate modules for the heat elements to work for front or rear, should be plug and play. do all trailhawks come with the rear heated seats?

caveat emptor - i would subscribe to the 3 day TechAthority subscription to verify the wiring for the 2017 seats is compatible with the 2014 body harness...I dont see why it wouldnt be but better to be out $30 vs $1000. Take a picture of your body wiring harness where it connects to the seats and use the PDF file attached to verify (see B11 & B12) the wiring for vent option

go into it with the thought of "no" the ventilated seats wont work and if they do its a bonus. those were my thoughts with the DVD screens im still working on trying to activate - still happy either way

i put MY 14 Summit seats in a MY 14 Laredo E and yes it was plug and play. Dealer reprogramed 8.4 with "dealer installed" options i.e heated seats and rear VES.

MY 11 and MY 14 seats are "probably" non-compatible, i will assume the body wiring harness / seat wiring is different. heated seats in a MY 11 would have physical buttons to activate the heating elements if im not mistaken vs via touch screen on MY 14 and newer. use TechAthority to verify

Ive also installed a Blu Ray player from a durango and the modules are visable on the dealers WiTech. I just need figure out some more wiring to get those to work.

since last posting i have also picked up a MY 15 overland body wiring harness. im going to remove the rear heated seat wiring from that harness and add to my laredo to power the rear heated seats...45lbs of wires and connector lol

I have '14 Summit and just got the front seats with monitors installed but mine is still firs model of ED and they weren't available when i order mine and i need these to work for my twins as we both wanted with my wife before we got it.
i know there is there piece harness from dash to center console and I'm missing a plug under the driver seat plus center console can bus cable ...
If u could send me some steps u took to get there i would appreciated, i too do not want to change the entire front dash/console wiring harness so the system will work

just got a 17 Ltd and will be swapping seats when i get a chance. will update when i can

the hardest part to source is the blue ray player and associated harness that connects to the the seats providing the video feed

#32 · (Edited)
this is the harness you need..connects to DVD player, seats and ip. its one big snake of a piece

best way to source this is from a dismantler. i did not have any luck trying to buy it from the dealer parts department.

attached are pics of the seat and player connectors for more of a real life look. if you look under your seats you'll see exactly where these hook up. hope that helps

correct. via WiTech under dealer installed options.

MY14/15 seat wiring is different than MY16/17 so make sure you get seats that match your MY jeep. I rewired my MY14 summit seat pins to work in my MY17 so it can be done but its very tedious
