There is something wrong with those?

There is a reason why cars are equipped with high beams and why you don't use them all the time.

Good to know about the CANBUS. u saw this asked but didn't see an answer to it. What brand of HIDs did you buy. & I thought it was better to put HIDs in a halogen housing and not older non-halogen housings. I want to do this on an 2005 I just picked up, so i'm thinking I may need to get newer headlights.

Thanks. For a second I thought I was in the minority and not with the other 300 million people who get annoyed by high beams.

Re: Aftermarket HID info and pictures

Not really sure about the whole high beam conversation. But yes HID's are suppose to be controlled and housed only in projector or specially designed reflectors. I am all for customizing and making your car unique, but most aftermarket HID bulbs create a hazard for other drivers because they are in the regular bulb reflectors.

Not trying to be a dick here but do you own a WK2 or have you installed HID in one yourself? I'm guessing no. If that is the case please stop posting info unless you know it to be 100% true, otherwise you are only going to cause people problems.

2. Yes you do. I installed the relay harness with the stock kit and it did absolutely nothing to fix the flicker. At idle the HID would come on and was very stable but as soon as the rpms changed they went disco. The guy who sold me the kit suggested the relay harness so it was installed but did absolutley nothing to solve the problem. Went back, removed the relay harness, installed the CANBUS version ballasts and now the whole system works like a dream. I'm thinking that it's not by coincidence but I suppose I could be wrong.

When we did the final ballast swap I did not take the new box with me and there is no name or info on the ballast itself. It's identical to almost every other generic kit out there - nothing special to it at all. The biggest thing as people have noted is how well the headlight in your particular vehicle focuses the light. I will try to find out the brand and will post if I find it.

This statement is true for most vehicles but not the WK2 IMO. For me it had nothing to do with customizing and everything to do with better visibility. I am not the type that would sacrifice others safety just because I thought it was "cool"

Re: Aftermarket HID info and pictures

That is very true I haven't seen a new WK2 with the HID bulbs in the standard reflectors. It is very admirable of you to consider the others on the road when changing components. I am all for more light and better visibility too....I just hope manufactures start taking steps to make the standard reflectors able to control both types of bulbs.
