Air filter for 5.7

I thought this might save someone a headache. I just (attempted to) changed the air filter for the first time. I ordered based on the part number from wk2jeeps.com. They have the wrong part number listed for the 5.7 liter v8. The wrong air filter part is listed: 5018777ab. This is rectangular and does not fit. The correct air filter is: 04861756aa and it's square. I emailed them with the correction. Back to the dealer to hopefully exchange the part if they'll let me.

Oh and while we're on the subject, I was surprised how filthy mine was with just 11.5k miles on it. So I recommend checking it because it might need replacing much sooner than the manual says.

I replaced my cabin filter also and it too was filthy.

Happy holidays fellow jeepers and thanks to everyone who posts and makes this site so good.

Just curious as to why you wouldn't try a K&N drop in filter and call it a day? I know they eventually require cleaning and reoiling, but they last forever and greatly improve efficiency.

Re: Air filter for 5.7

Here are a couple reasons:

K&N is great at marketing, but their drop ins are a waste of $$ in my opinion. They are initially free flowing because they are porous, so more dirt gets into the engine top end. Eventually they get dirty and flow about the same as paper (or less).. and then the oil can gunk up intake sensors ($$$) if not done right….
