anyone had luck replaceing their backup camera?

my backup camera stopped working a few months ago on my 2011 Overland. At first it would sometimes work and sometimes not work. Now, when i put the vehicle into reverse, it just shows a black screen with the "Check your entire surroundings" warning.

After a little research, it seems like this is a known problem with some of the OEM cameras installed going bad. I also had a local body shop open up the lift gate and check the connections/wiring harness and they confirmed the connections were fine. It seems like the camera itself just went. It is out of warranty so the dealer obviously wants an arm and a leg to replace so i thought maybe i should just try and order one and try it myself. Anyone else had this issue? From what i understand, if i want to replace the BU camera, i have to replace this entire piece:

is it not possible to just buy the camera itself and install it into my existing piece?

I believe you have to buy the whole piece, no other way around it.

I bought mine from justforjeeps, if you're just doing a swap shouldn't take more than an hour or two, that was the easiest part of my install.

There's a pdf on justforjeeps that shows how to do it

Are you sure of this? The reason I ask is because I actually had the rear appliqué replaced by a body shop, due to an accident. When I asked about the camera being under warranty since they just replaced it less than a year ago, they are claiming JUST the appliqué was replaced and that the camera is the original camera from before the repair. If this can't be true then I am going to push them harder as I don't like being lied to

No, I don't know this for a fact, just remember when researching retrofitting a camera into my laredo, I had to buy the whole brow.

You can replace just the defective camera. Camera part number is 56054059AD and cost around $ 240
