Anyone install side steps yet? Question on Install

After looking at the online PDF

http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82212130.pdf

it seems like you have to take off the bottom plastic?? It shows you breaking 6 of something and then at the end you have to rivet it back on? Is this correct?

I have the side steps but havent opened the box since I dont have the Jeep yet, so when I do I suppose once I look under the Jeep I dont have yet, I'd see what Im dealing with.

However Im just trying to get some insight from someone who did the install, I searched the forum but couldn't find the one member who I know did this already.

your rocker panels have plastic rivets and you would need a riveting tool and new rivets to put it back on. i work at a body shop and i removed mine myself to paint my textured black rockers, its easy if you have the tools, otherwise go to a body shop and see if they'll do it for you

A rivet tool is the best bet but I got by with a pair of pliers and one of those rivet poppers/trim remover tools with the Y shape. You don't have to take the rocker panel off but taking the rivets out allows enough maneuver flexibility to get the job done. I tried it without taking out the rivets but that was a no go for me.

j13ntv, that vehicle of yours does it for me. i may have to delete photo view in signatures just so i don't get so aroused every time you post.

i recall it pushing me over the edge and test driving the 11JGC the next day.

can't remember who's rig this is, but it's identical to yours. it replaced my farah fawcett poster above the bed. wife's not happy.

sorry for the threadjack.

Re: Anyone install side steps yet? Question on Install

yes, no problem do not remove any plastic rivets ,until you see if its posible to pass the bracket under the plastic first. only remove what is necsessary @ the rear remove ths 10mm bolt for sure the plastic rivet tool ran me 56.00( morson ) they provide 12 rivets with the kit used 8 but could of done it by only removing 4 thats both sides good luck tighting the center bolt till it locks against the body.pat....they look great
