Yep - just cut the cig adapter off (3-4 inches above it, to leave some wiring in case you ever want to re-attach it); strip the insulation on the cord and you'll see the power and ground wires inside. I don't recall what fuse I used - it was just an inline fuse kit I had laying around. Don't need a very high-rated one, though - I imagine a 2 amp would be plenty.

Great video, thanks for posting that! Perfect example of why I have a dashcam. Video makes a great witness!

Re: Blackvue DR500GW-HD DashCam Install

Just ordered my DR500GW-HD from Dream-Seller on ebay (looks like they're the only authorized reseller of Blackvue Products).

Im thinking instead of tapping into any wires, Im going to attempt to hide the wire and run it to the trunk outlet and turn that into an always hot outlet by changing the fuse. Gonna have to see how everything works out once I take delivery of the jeep and receive the camera.

Not worried about draining the battery?

It shouldn't be a problem. The longest my car is off is about 8-10 hours and the dashboard camera doesn't pull enough juice to drain th bettery that quickly.

If my car is going to be off for several days, I'll unplug it.

I've had a dashboard camera in my current car running 24/7 for the past year without problems.

Re: Blackvue DR500GW-HD DashCam Install

If you want the camera to remain on 24/7, you could hardwire one of these which still leaves you the cigarette plug for the camera: http://www.amazon.com/Blackvue-Power.../dp/B008B8ERIO

I hang my iPhone from the rear view mirror using a GearTie. It's not perfect, but it does the job! I have a video using that technique at http://www.pocketpigskin.com/MyCloud...eTollPlaza.wmv.

I was definitely looking into that option, however I don't want to tap into any wires the first week I get the car haha.

Eventually I will do that as the bundle I ordered came with that adapter. If its not too hard to run the wire to the trunk lighter, that'll probably be my best option, as I doubt I will ever use that plug for anything lol.

Re: Blackvue DR500GW-HD DashCam Install

I just ended up running the power wire under the plastic A-Pillar and and down under the carpeting into the the power outlet in the center console. The only place the wire is visible is where its going into the factory hole in the center console which is good enough for me rather than going into the factory wiring.

Camera has been running 24/7 since I received the car on Tuesday and everything's been working great.

+1
I did the same thing except I ran it under the glove box and down the side of the center console.
