Blind Spot Detection Mirrors

I recently purchased my first Jeep, a 2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude. Does anyone know if it's possible to swap the side mirrors for electronic folding ones that have blindspot detection?

No. The blind spot detection system uses radar sensors that are mounted inside the left and right rear bumper, in addition to the processor that actually interprets the sensors signal, those signals ultimately being transmitted to the LED's in each mirror.

In theory, this system could be added, along with the wiring harness and new window switch bank for the folding mirrors, but the cost for the parts and the labor to install would likely be prohibitive...not to mention what the Dealer would charge to enable both, if they would agree to do this do to the potential liability of the blind spot system not working as designed, failing to alert the driver of another vehicle being in the "blind spot".

Re: Blind Spot Detection Mirrors

It would be easier for you to just buy a new jeep to get the features you want. Waayyy too much work and money would be involved to add those features which like mentioned go much further beyond than just the outside mirrors.

Re: Blind Spot Detection Mirrors

Thanks for the replies. My Jeep is equipped with ParkSense so I already have the sensors in the bumper. I'm now wondering if the processor is the same or different. Obviously, I would have to swap out the mirrors.

I hate the look of the stick-on blindspot mirrors. Even with my mirrors adjusted using the method outlined at How to Set Rear‐View Mirrors to Eliminate Blind Spots: 6 Steps there's still a descent sized blindspot.

The ParkSense sensors are not the same as the radar sensors for blind spot detection. The BLS radar sensors are mounted behind the left and right side bumper covering. If you don't have the advanced tech. package, you don't have the radar sensors

Well what about just adding the mirrors with the turn signal w/o BSM to the Altitude Edition? I was looking into purchasing the Altitude but would like to add these mirrors.

Re: Blind Spot Detection Mirrors

I honestly don't like the blindspot detection mirrors vs looking over the shoulder. May become a bad habit eventually.

But if you really want them there are 2 choices as stated above the expenses on having that installed is going to be through the roof - best bet would be to trade in you 15 for one that has it as its factory installed. Better do it now than prolong and lose resale value!
