Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

I have the exact same CC on my Hemi. I have been keeping a pretty close eye on it till I see how quick it fills up. I have emptied it 3 times in 5000 miles. Each time it had about an inch of what appeared to be undiluted oil in it. Looks like it needs to be checked once or twice between oil changes.

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

Would this be the same for installation on a WK 5.7 ?

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

^dms, see jdubya's hemi 5.7 thread in this subforum. it is a nearly identical install for WK, though there are a few alternative CC mount locations including strut bar, back engine bay, zbracket, and the accessory mount.

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

I got mine in the other day and the tried to install like yours; it is not the same for the WK though, as the A/C lines are in the way just below where you have your CC mounted, so I made a custom bracket and followed the advice for the strut bar location.

You're confusing blow-by with the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system. Blow-by is caused by worn cylinder walls and piston rings. This catch can traps the oil that is sucked through the PCV valve. Adding a catch can early on will definitely help keep the top end of your engine a little cleaner.

The bottom half of the catch can unscrews so you can empty all of the trapped oil. I usually check it at least once between oil changes. I'm surprised by how much oil it traps, it's definitely a worthwhile investment.

She's collected about 2 ozs of gunk in a mere 829 miles. Looks like Jaegermeister, smells like napalm, thick as snot.

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

So far the BT CC has siphoned off 4 ounces of gunk in 2,874 miles, or roughly 1 ounce per 713 miles.

FWIW, I've done two synthetic oil changes in 8k miles of driving a new 2011 5.7L. YMMV.

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

I've had my catch can for a year now and I've almost filled up a 12oz. beer bottle.. I'm at the bottom of the neck. Nothing scientifical () but Moose, you've inspired me to start watching the numbers.

5.7Unlimited is just really nice
Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

I've got a question about this install for a WK2, what if you have the stock resonator, do you think it would install just as easily or would the resonator get in the way?

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

Nice work Moose! Is there a model number for the BT unit? I have an '11 WK2 with 5k on it and I want to make this my first mod.

Best,

Chazmo

Re: BT Catch Can for WK2

Has anyone made a clear version of this - so you can easily view the amount of oil?
