: Adding the "STOP" feature to early 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees that came with Active Cruise Control and Forward collision Warning with Mitigation
Read this thread:
Adaptive Cruise Control Stop-go
Early 2014 JGCs with ACC and FCW did not have STOP and GO capability for their ACC function. Starting in July, Jeep implemented some changes and now...the vehicle has STOP and GO capability added to their Active Cruise Control. This is a significant improvement in safety, as it can bring the car down to a complete stop. It probably also improves on the Forward Collision Warning with CRASH Mitigation.
: Identify the parts and retrofit the STOP capability to early model year 2014 JGCs.
: We were told by Milous that older vehicles cannot have the STOP feature added on and that there have been some hardware changes. Success is therefore NOT guaranteed. I also am not willing to spend too much on this project. I do expect a few hundred dollars, maybe $1000 factoring in labor costs. I am NOT however willing to do this irrespective of costs, especially since it *might* involve additional sensors; brake lines and so on. I ain't doing that. I will just trade it in in 2017 or whenever the next major update is.
And Milous is correct, we are not talking a "reflash", a "reprogramming" of a module. But I've done some exotic things with my Subarus in the past, so I am not that worried of a module or two. I doubt this will cause any "bricking
" of any car part and we are swapping OEM for OEM.
Obviously I will need some community help. And similarly I will be more than happy to provide help in both man-hours of research and/or labor and financial (as in splitting the acquisition costs) with someone willing to be the first to try it out. Now, the more people willing to do this, the better, and cheaper overall costs.
This is what I know so far.
The system is made by Bosch.
This is likely the sensor:
LRR3: 3rd Generation Long-Range Radar Sensor
LRR3 technical data sheet
Distance 0.5…250 m
Accuracy ±0.1 m
Relative speed -75 …+60 m/s
Accuracy ±0.12 m/s
A newer sensor is available from Bosch, LRR4, but not in production until next year....So it is NOT the sensor. And LRR3 appears to be made since 2009.
I took a trip to the dealership tonight to look up the difference between the ABS Control Module and the ABS Control Unit between two vehicles: mine and whatever I find new and better on the lot.
Comparing the EARLY (April 2013) JGC (EC160968) Package 23H limited
and a FRESH (Post-JULY 2013) JGC (EC272504) Package 23P Overland, the following differences are noted:
- the 6 channel ABS Brake Pressure Modulator is seemingly built for higher pressures and incorporates 2 "blocks" for the rear channels (probably valves).
The pictures in this post are for the new hardware only:
