Re: Disable auto lift gate

I was wondering the same thing, for whatever reason (either a touchy keyfob or bad sensor) my lift gate will open on its own. At least a dozen times I have come out of work or a store to find it open. So far it hasn't happened with my dogs in there but since I take them with me a lot I'm sure it is only a matter of time, seams to happen no matter what keyfob I'm using. An easy shut off on this feature would be nice.

It's just a binary sensor. It knows whether there's a passenger but doesn't know how much she weighs.

The passenger seat sensor just verifies there is someone there. It does not adjust the force or size of the airbag deployment. So if you put a child seat there and it registers enough weight then you have a serious safety issue. If there is nothing in the seat there is no need for deployment just as if there is something on the seat you dont want the airbag to deploy sending that stuff flying if there is an accident.

Berk instead of quoting just one part of my reply re-read the whole post. I was responding to a poster that felt the automatic lift gate will not harm anyone because it will detect an obstruction and will re-open automatically before any damage to a human will occur. I was making a sarcastic point that we can not trust these safety devices with our children's safety and used the example of the passenger airbag, even though is not active when a child sits on the passenger front seat they are still expected to sit in the back for obvious reasons, but for some unknown reason to me you could not understand that in my post and only focused on a teaching lesson about how the passenger air bag works

The passenger airbag is active when a child sits on the passenger front seat.

I guess I'm still missing whatever point you're trying to make, but I didn't want to leave that uncorrected for other readers.

I'm missing it too, oh well...I'll stay out of this as I have nothing constructive to add.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

hows bout calling the dealer and asking them since it seems most people seem to think disableing it is silly

although if i had to guess id think pulling the panel and disconnecting wiring goint to the cylinders would do it

My post was a reply to this post. I am concerned that my lift gate while closing will crush my child's fingers or the dogs paw if they were to get them in the way while the gate was closing automatically and this person is responding by telling me it is safe because it is tried and tested technology. I responded with an example of the old technology with the pass air bag, when my child sits on the seat while it is running the airbag is off, but I would never trust that sensor with his life just like the auto manufactures don't either.
The point I was making is that I don't trust the pressure sensors in the automatic lift gate to protect my child's fingers and hands just like we do not trust the passenger side air bag when it indicates the air bag is off even though it is "10 yr old technology"

My neice closed the rear door on her finger when closing it after she got out ... Lost her fingernail... We were sad.

How do I disable the rear door?

Do your kids ride around the back of your jeep frequently? My parents had 1 of those old station wagons w/ that sweet grand wagoneer style faux wood trim on the side. Oh the fun we had rolling around back there ... like peanuts bouncing around in a can mixed in w/ a grubby spare tire and all sorts of jacks and tire irons. Those sideways swunging heavy doors were serious.

Accidents happen.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

Did anyone ever figure out how to disable power liftgate? My Enclave has a switch on the dash to disable it, and I have found reasons to do so. Not to get into an argument about the merits, but I'd like to be able to do it in my GC too.
