Re: Disable auto lift gate

Count me in also for the disable feature. Have used the liftgate for over a year and there have been times I wished I could turn it off - I do like the auto feature though.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

This won't exactly "permanently" disable the feature but you can always pop the key fob open and put a piece of cardboard or similar between the contacts for the liftgate button.

To open the liftgate in manual mode, just pull twice on the liftgate handle.

Exactly. Plus I just pull down the lift gate to close, then it auto locks.

How do I disable the rear door?

Do your kids ride around the back of your jeep frequently? My parents had 1 of those old station wagons w/ that sweet grand wagoneer style faux wood trim on the side. Oh the fun we had rolling around back there ... like peanuts bouncing around in a can mixed in w/ a grubby spare tire and all sorts of jacks and tire irons. Those sideways swunging heavy doors were serious.

Accidents happen.

Haha! love it!! we were the same, seat belts were no existent to us back then.

Sadly, the 2014 Overland doesn't allow the rear glass to be opened. Not sure what model the OP has.

I do use it this way also, but still would like the ability to switch it off.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

My 2011 Overland Summit has the power open feature, and its frustrating! At least once a week if I have my key in my pocket it will open. I'll walk outside an hour or a day later and its just open. Wish there was an option to disable it rather than removing wiring/removing fuses. I may try to disable the button on my key fob as someone suggested.

Since the original post was in April, 2012 I'll wager $10 he wasn't referring to a '14.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

If I had a choice even, if it cost extra, I'd prefer a manual gate.

Certainly there are times the automatic works perfectly fine.

To add to the list.

You open it and something fragile is falling out and you try to stop it, it reverses and crushes the fragile item.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

Does anybody have solution to this? I am thinking of replacing power arm with normal gas strut. My concerns are, will it give some error to system, will it still lock electrically like it does now?

Has anyone found a solution do this yet? I am thinking of getting a GC after the '16s come out.
Reading this thread, many wonder why someone would want to disable it. I have 2, my garage height and the fact that I can manually open and close the gate much quicker than waiting for lift gate to open and close with the motor.
Maybe the '16's will come with a height adjustment on the struts to eliminate the problem. Seems that so many vehicles already have this feature, the Escape comes to mind, yet something much more expensive like the GC does not.

Re: Disable auto lift gate

Just pull the lift gate handle twice and it will open/close manually.
