While we're on the subject of the 3G modem, anyone know if it can be upgraded to 4G and\or other cell carrier?

Agreed, I didn't realize they used Sprint. Disappointing, wish they would have gone to a carrier with stronger coverage

I too am interested if we can go to 4G eventually. I plan on keeping my jeep for a long time and to start out with 3G is behind the curve so to speak.

I doubt I will be able to disable the modem without getting the service manual and seeing how the antenna is run.

I really think that a notch filter is going to be the best way to kill the vehicle's cellular data link without causing the head unit to constantly complain. Simply disconnecting the antenna might work fairly well, but I'm guessing you would sacrifice GPS, SXM, and probably radio along with it.

Re: Disabling cellular modem on 2014 8.4AN?

I wonder if their is a cellular antenna you can disconnect, it might be integrated into the air card though.
Or perhaps a simple jammer. Google jamming CDMA. Since it's close range it might not be too hard. EDIT: Never Mind, it's illegal and hard. Only way is by shielding.
Lack of cellular service will not make the head unit fault.

You could disconnect antenna, just as a test to see if the Antenna is even being used.

Re: Disabling cellular modem on 2014 8.4AN?

I just did a little looking to see if there was any new information on this subject, and I found a forum thread where somebody was looking in to disabling cellular or using a different carrier for a Ram 1500 with UConnect 8.4. Maybe there is an opportunity for some collaboration since the head unit hardware is probably the same.

Re: Disabling cellular modem on 2014 8.4AN?

To bring this full circle, the best approach would be to hack the uconnect firmware and change the pf.conf firewall configuration. This would leave the 911 button functional (as well as the GPS/nav and radios) while disabling the data network/creepy tracking. Also, there would be no error messages.
