Do you use the rear opening hatch? <2013

Hi,

I'e been eying the rear hatch window on the wk2 (2013 and earlier) and it looks like it would be a fit (swap whole hatch) for a 2014 > wk2..

Question - Of those that have the rear opening hatch window, how many use it? Find it a must have? If it wasn't there ( like my 2014 wk2), what would you miss?

Thx!

You can't swap out the hatches. It's been discussed here before.

I missed the flipper window briefly. Turns out I really didn't use it as much as I thought. Long things now stick out of the passenger window. It is nice to know that a fixed window is less likely to leak or come unglued from the support arm as was reported in the past with the flipper.

Used it weekly. When my wife came back from the grocery store with those plastic bags in the way-back, they would shift. Open the tailgate, and a gallon of milk would splat, or cans would roll down the drive way. The fix was to open the top glass and get the bags against the gate out, then open the gate. Also if I had a long piece of lumber, I could put it out the window. There is no place to put a bungee cord on the gate to hold down the gate, so the window came in handy at times. Miss it in in my '16.

My neighbors with Pilots and Highlanders were all jealous of the flip glass.

Don't you have the plastic hooks on the sides in the back for the plastic grocery bags? Of course there are square bottom reusable grocery bags. Also if you don't have the gate netting which is standard on some models, get it. The milk jugs sit inside it nicely (unless you take the corners on 2 wheels!). Enjoy.

I use mine about once a month for quick access. At first I thought it was a must have but not so much anymore. I like the idea if having it but I like the LED tail lights more.

Re: Do you use the rear opening hatch? <2013

WOW! No more flipper glass on the new gen? I literally use it all the time. For one, when one of my trailers is connected I can't open the gate because the spare tire mounted on the tongue is too close to the gate.
I also leave it open for the dog when I need him in the car but want him to have full breeze through the windows. (Disclaimer- I do not leave him unattended or in the sun like that. Or on days where it is above 75* and/or no breeze.)

Re: Do you use the rear opening hatch? <2013

Coming from two previous Jeeps that had the flip glass, I missed it at first and still would prefer to have it but I'm used to the entire gate opening at this point. Considering everything else the vehicle is equipped with, I'll gladly take the trade off of not having it. I can understand that others may have specific circumstances where it might be a requirement.
