Hi I just did my wheels and thought I would share with you in case I can help someone else.
-Wet Sand paper: 320/400/600/800 grit
-Brake cleaner or Ps100 cleaner, or any paint prep
-Paint: 2 Base coat cans - I used Dupli-color wheel paint
-Clear coat :2 cans if you want the gloss
-Grinder with a metal brush
-1-2 playing card decks
My wheels were pretty bad arround the center cap. I bought it like that. So I decided to re-do them.
1- Obviously remove the wheels and center cap. Center is removed from the inside by pushing on it
2-Clean the wheels
3-If your wheels are badly corroded, you will need to start with the grinder and the metal brush.
4-wt sand (with soapy water) the center with 320 grit so remove the grinder scracthes and the rest of corrosion.
4-wet sand with 400, then 600 then 800 the entire wheel. If your wheels are not corroded, you can skip the 400 pass
5-Clean the wheels again. Use soap and hot water. Then use the PS100 or brake cleaner, or any paint prep product of your choice. I used brake cleaner
6-Use the playing cards and insert them arround the tire/mag to cover the tire from paint
7-Mask your valve with the masking tape
8-If you had to sand down to metal, then apply a primer
9-Apply the 1 base coat. Apply lightly the first and second coat. Allow 10min between each coat
10-then apply a 3rd coat a bit thicker
11-Apply the clear coat. I did 4 coat of clear coat to have a nice finish
Those are basic steps, but you can follow them deeper in the video I made here:
