Engine Cleaning

I want to clean the engine bay. Is there anything I need to cover with a plastic bag to keep dry? I've read I should cover the FCM and PCM...but I'm not even sure where they are located.

Also, I was planning on using a Simple Green mixture (diluted 50:50 with water) as a cleaner/degrease, let that sit for a few minutes and rinse...and then spray on an Armour All protectant (or something similar).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Engine Cleaning

I don't think engine cleaning is such a good idea. With all the electronics under the hood now a days. Perhaps use one of those no-water auto cleaners. Don't use armor-all though, that's a dust magnet.

Just my 2 cents

Re: Engine Cleaning

i clean my engine bay
soak it with 'spray nine', let it sit...turn truck on, hose down, drive around the block till engine warms up, then let it dry

i dont cover anything
granted i have a diesel so i dont know whats different
but i believe aslong as u dont keep the pressure on important things like the alternator u should be fine

ive always heard u should have the engine running when hosing it down, so thats why i do it
