Engine Stop HELP!

Hello,

My husband and I just purchased our first Jeep. It's a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited. We are having a real issue with this auto engine stop every time we stop at a light or stop sign. It almost feels dangerous because of the hesitation of the engine coming back on before you pull out into traffic. Also, it doesn't seem like this would be good for the engine to be starting and stopping... isn't that additional wear and tear on the engine? We would not have bought this vehicle had we known about this. Is there a way to disable it or put it to "off" as a default? Is there any "benefit" to this? We are feeling disappointed with our first Jeep experience. :-(

Re: Engine Stop HELP!

I don't own a Cherokee, so all I can do is read the owner's manual.

I would have thought there was a permanent setting, but the OM doesn't cover it (maybe the UConnect manuals do).

Anyway, there is apparently a button on the dash to turn it off.. but it resets on every key cycle.

Ask your salesman, there should be a defeat setting, where you may discover that it defaults to back on every time you start the car due to the "benefits"

A better time to have brought it up with the salesman would have been before writing any checks.

The start/stop feature's benefit is that it gets a few brownie points related to EPA gas mileage. Unfortunately, expect to see it spread to more vehicles and possibly even be created so it can't be turned off.

It is a nice feature on hybrids--on non-hybrids, thank your government for taking care of you whether you wanted/needed it or not.

Re: Engine Stop HELP!

I agree with you Tammie. Let me say, before the moderators move this to the Cherokee section , that the Grand Cherokee is getting this feature too for MY16. This helps the manufacturer meet their overall mpg goals. It is sneaking into more and more vehicles. My friend's MB E350 has it.

Re: Engine Stop HELP!

Yep...I imagine I've bought my last new Grand Cherokees if they put that crap on them. My Max Care Lifetime contracts on my '11 and '14 are going to get a lot of use.

Re: Engine Stop HELP!

Never even heard of it until I started reading this thread. Definitely something I'd avoid at all cost, if possible. Sorry to hear it's coming to the GC. Just something else to become problematic. One step forward, two steps back.
