Post Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

In simple words since pictures speak for themselves:
  • Remove radio bezel
  • Remove radio
  • Hook up cable to cigarette lighter in the small compartment at bottom
  • Route cable end through top side of compartment to behind the dash, and behind radio area.
  • Pop out trim cover on top of the dash, unplug any harnesses and remove
  • Hook up cable end to a metal hanger and push thru opening at the very top of the dash (radio area / see picture)
  • Drill a hole on the circle door which is part of the dash trim piece enough to allow the phone jack connector type to pass thru
  • Plug back harnesses, plug connector, and done...

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

wouldn't it be easier to get the invisicord wire and tap into the mirror harness...a lot less work and the detector is certainly less noticable to all...just my opinon

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

I did a little research and decided to mount it low. Detectors mounted high do not receive laser alerts. Even though getting hit by laser means it's too late and a ticket is on its way, getting the alert will give you a little extra time to put the cellphone away, etc. There are other disadvantages like becoming other driver's trailblazer by them following you knowing you have a radar detector. It's also becomes obvious when a police car is behind you it increases your chances of getting pulled over for other reasons. Not my intention to start a high vs. low debate, just my personal decision.

Yeah -- I would have mounted high, and ran the cord up the A pillar, or bought mirror tap. Must less work, and you wouldn't have a hole in your dash. Mine are mounted above the rear view mirror in both my vehicles. I prefer not to see them in plain sight while driving.

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

Do you guys know where I can buy this invisicord and how long is it? I want to mount my radar low and still have enough wire to go from the rear view mirror and hide it up along the entire windshield and then come up through the bottom where the middle speaker is.

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

FYI
Invisicord Products Home Page

Though, if you want to do that kind of an install,
You will probably have to order a custom length cord...
I believe the stock lengths are 8"-24".

Also, when on this site looking for 'Jeep'... You must use 'Chrysler'.
And, the 'micro version' cord makes for the cleanest install.

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

I've had my 9500ix for about 3-4 years now and it's been great. There will always be a debate about the escort vs the V1. I have a buddy who swears by his V1 as much as I swear by my 9500ix. Both are solid products if you ask me.

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

Yes I was gonna say that ugly UHF looking valentine 1 is a culprit to overcome for many years. I use to have a beltronics and it was average. Does the escort work well with the Lida scan radars?

Re: Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector Wiring Option

Bel is owned by Escort now so there is a lot of overlap in their products from what I've read. What's a LIDA scan radar? If you mean "laser", I've picked it up a few times but I see a lot more KA band than I do Laser. I drive a lot of miles and I rarely see laser. I also accept the fact that if I get hit with laser, I'm probably screwed.
