Hey guys curious to what the average range of your key fob is to open the rear hatch? I can remote start through concrete walls from a 1000 feet and unlock the doors from maybe 50 but I have to be around 3 or 4 feet from my Jeep to get that darn hatch to open. Dealer said the range is limited and that sounds about right. Seems to me the whole idea is to have it open when you get there but half the time we’re standing waiting for it to open. I would think that 10-15 feet would be a good distance if the range is in fact limited.
I've noticed the same thing on my 15'. I can be further away from my Jeep to operate the remote start & door locks, but the remote lift gate doesn't seem to have the same range.
Thought it was just me..... Guess not.
Ok, you are all going to call BS on this tip, but it is legit.
To get extra distance, put the fob under your lower jaw, behind your chin, like you're going to blow your head off with the fob. Your head acts like an antenna and boosts the signal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYeXuM_xL1M
I've done this many times with several cars to prove this works.
I can get at least 100 yards even around the corners of buildings for a remote start. I haven't tried opening the rear hatch more than 10-20 feet away since I don't like to be too far away in case someone starts to walk or drive by where they could be hit by it. I also worry about someone leaving a cart or stroller there that I might not see from further away.
It's totally legit.
Car alarm installers usually know the trick. I've used it myself on previous vehicles when my remote battery starts getting low or when I come out of some large complex and forget whether I'm in Section 2 Orange or Section 2 Blue.
That's because Jeep still hasn't fully corrected the 2 clicks on keyfob to operate the liftgate. Many times it requires 4 clicks. They came out with an update to specifically address this problem earlier this year, but the problem returns after some time. On mine, it's improved over how it very, very seldom worked following 2 clicks, but at times it still requires 4 clicks.
After 3.5 years, they still haven't found a cure for this problem.
