Re: Front and rear diff fluid change

For the xfercase on my V6, I used Red Line Synthetic Oil - Automatic Transmission Fluids - D4 ATF per Red Line's recommendation. Manual states Shell ATF 3403/M-115, this being a direct replacement for that. I don't know if the V8 is different.

I used this one for the differentials Red Line Synthetic Oil - Gear Oil for Differentials - 75W85 GL-5 Gear Oil

Shouldn't you be using this Redline ATF+4 compatible fluid for the x-fer case;

Red Line Synthetic Oil

Re: Front and rear diff fluid change

Wk2jeeps says that the following is reccomended for both Transmission and Two Speed Transfer Case:

MoparŪ ATF +4, type 9602

The following are some specs on the Redline C+ ATF:

Satisfies Chrysler ATF+, +2, +3 (Type 7176) and ATF+4 (Type 9602) requirements.

So it would appear the Redline C+ would be the perfect match for both Trannie and Transfer Case and yet Redline does not reccomend any oil for the TC. Also I see that some owners are using D4 ATF instead. Any advice out there?

Re: Front and rear diff fluid change

For atf specs i stick with oem.. But d4 is good stuff. I use it in my t6060 in my z06 which i track, it holds up well.

I dont think transfer case is as picky, so i assume d4 is fine. For my jeep ill use atf+4 in tranny for sure and tc because i think modern atf is very refined if not "synthetic" to match maker specs and last 100k.. Jmho.

Archer racing uses all oem fluids in their racing vipers. That says something about oem to me...

Re: Front and rear diff fluid change

At what mileage should I be changing the diff and trans in my 2011 2wd 5.7L?

Re: Front and rear diff fluid change

If I say anything other than the OEM recs I'd be doing so without evidence:...............but.......... I change mine early the first go around as the gears need to wear in some in anything mech. I think 4 years or 30K miles is reasonable, but the recs are more like 60K on the diff I think, and 100K or never on the AT..

I had my ATF changed during a TSB for my tranny so it was free at 22K, now I won't change that until it is due as it has been nicely warn in. I find much metal in many fluids I change in many different cars I've owned. I'm not saying that I know it harms the gears to be there, but it can't help the fluid stay in spec, and it can't hurt to change it if you have time and a few bucks and wrenches. The ATF is harder to change I suppose, so wait on that one.

If I was paying someone to do it, I'd go by Jeep's recs. But the fluid is cheap and easy to change yourself (except maybe ATF, which I haven't done yet)..

If you tow, do it 2x more often, I suppose.
