Could someone let me know if there should be some type of plate/panel between the Axle and transfer case skid plates. I have nothing between them at the moment and the transfer case skid plate is acting like a shovel in sand. The sand builds up over a few hours and the eventual contact with the drive shaft creates an ugly vibration/sound until I wash out the sand... Very frustrating...

Re: Front Axle & Transfer Case Skidplates Install

For those that installed the fuel tank skid plates, what torque range did you guys bolt down the nut? It does not mention it on the instruction however it mention torque range on the front axle and transfer case skid plate. Thanks!

Great write up!!

Just picked the skid plate set (front, trans and fuel).
Instructions with mine say to remove those two trans cross members.

But my front axle skid plate comes with the plastic moulded underside that resembles the carpet factory one that needs to removed.

Does this need to be kept on? Seems strange...

Doing the fuel tanks with a mechanic mate of mine on the hoist

Will post pics when done

Re: Front Axle & Transfer Case Skidplates Install

Can anyone tell me which skidplate to buy to protect the oil pan area? I have a fumoto drain valve to change the oil easier, but it sticks down quite a bit and is vulnerable to damage. Covering it up with a skid plate would ease my mind a lot.

If the front plate is for Diesel engine, it should not be removed. It replaces the existing engine encapsulation plate that needs to be removed when installing the skid plate.

Re: Front Axle & Transfer Case Skidplates Install

The encapsulation plate or the diesel front suspension skid plate liner may be used as thermal insulation to decrease heat loss after a small diesel engine has been shut-off so that it will have a warmer restart short time later. This insulation will help fuel economy for vehicles used for short trips in cold weather and with diesel engines that warm up slowly.
