Re: FYI...When to change your oil............

After next weeks trip to the cape, I should be at about 3,000 mile. I will do my first oil change then., just because. After that since i payed for the extended service contract, i will change my oil twice a year, every six months.

Because every auto company wants to be known for giving guidelines that are harmful to their vehicles. Every auto company wants to accelerate the planned obsolescence that they scheme and incorporate into their vehicles after meetings in smokey rooms with shareholders and accountants.

We all know that management takes what the engineers recommend, throw it in to the trash, and make up their own numbers. They also figured that extending the oil change intervals from 6 mos or 6,000 miles to 12 mos or 10,000 miles will not only mean more new cars sold (for all those smoking wrecks left at the side of the road with their engines seized 3 mos after the warranty expires), but it also helps screw revenue out the greedy, whiny dealers.

Dealers hate it when people come in for oil changes anyway, they're too busy selling replacement cars to the stupid people who are foolish enough to buy another vehicle from the same company that gives them explicit instructions on how to ruin their car. That's where the money is anyway.

No wonder they don't bundle owner manuals with the cars any more, nobody reads them and they're filled with lies anyway.

I got an owners manual with mine, read it cover to cover and trust it all.
After all...its their rules for keeping the warranty intact.

As long as I know you'll give me a ride, I may never change my oil.

Re: FYI...When to change your oil............

Maybe you guys can get a group buy going on jackets with " I change my oil more often than I have to cuz I'm smarter than the manufacturer, like ruining the enviroment and don't care about wasting time an money" on them. Now that would be good to have.

And don't forget this logo on the front chest area...........

ahahaha

Re: FYI...When to change your oil............

You guys are funny!

I have been changing oil on my cars every 5k miles for as long as I remember. I always use synthetic oil and I plan on switching to synthetic once my "free" oil changes at the dealer are over (got one more).

It is funny that when I get an oil change done at the dealership, they put a next oil change reminder sticker inside the windshield that basically tells me to bring back the Jeep after 3k miles or 3 months. Really?

My bike and the Boxster do not get driven much (less than 5k miles each year), so I change oil on them once a year.

Cheers,
-A

I just changed mine at 3,000 and plan on every 3-5k for ever...I think well worth it even if not 100% necessary.

Re: FYI...When to change your oil............

You need to factor in wasted time waiting for the Oil Change too if you have it done. Time is money. I do mine myself.

I plan to do every 7500 miles. Which works out to about 2 times a year. 5K or less is ridiculous these days. Excessive waste of resources too.

If I went 10,000 miles, I would DEFINITELY get oil tested to see how it is really holding up. Not that expensive and gives you piece of mind. I want some buffer too in case I don't have time to change it, it won't be a big deal to go 1000 miles over my 7500 target. Just like you wouldn't want to run your gas tank to the last drop either.

I tested my wifes VW CC twice at 7500 and both times they said, try going to 9K and test again based on what they say. VW also recommends 10K miles.

I got mine tested at blackstone. You can see it tested fine at 7500 miles. Any less is just dumb.
