GC - SD Card for my MP3 music , 8.4AN

Can anyone tell me the best setup for MP3 music on an SD Card to use in a 8.4 AN.

I have about 2700 tunes in various genres: Country, Pop, Rock, etc.
Do the tunes have to be collected by genre in folders?
Is there anything special required about the MP3 tags ?
Will the 8.4AN display the Album Cover on the screen?

I am trying to get ahead of the game before my 2015 GC CRD arrives.
Thanks

Re: GC - SD Card for my MP3 music , 8.4AN

There are several SD card threads in the Audio section - Audio/Visual/Navigation - Jeep Garage - Jeep Forum

Depending on how you currently have them sorted, for many it is simply a case of copying the master folder to a SD (XC) card and using it as is.
In my case they are organised via iTunes, so I just copied that Music folder to my SD XC card and that was it.
If artwork is properly done in iTunes, it shows on Uconnect.

You can use big cards, I have a 64GB in there now, and just purchased a 256GB.
It can be formatted to NTFS or FAT32.
The speed of the card has no bearing on how it performs in Uconnect, it only helps when copying to it, not reading from it.

How quick (or not) is UConnect in reading the SD card?

It's slow.
I have used a super cheap card, the kind they give away and my fast Sony one, both had the same lacklustre result.

Very slow, especially with a large collection. Mine takes at least 30 seconds to stop asking me to insert a card after that stupid warning screen goes away.

It also took several days before voice control would fully work while the system cataloged everything.

It almost makea me wish for a CD player....almost....

I do plan to pare down some tracks I really never listen to (it's almost my entire collection right now - and I've been collecting since 1986) which should help a bit.

Speaking of that warning screen...is there a way to permanently agree to the warning and make it stop appearing?

Re: GC - SD Card for my MP3 music , 8.4AN

I have about 12 gb on a 32 gb card, and I'm not having any problems with read times, no warning screens, and voice control works fine. I use wma format, and my folder structure is set up the way it's been described on other threads here. I get album art, and search works great across all search functions. I don't see any difference with the speed using usb. YMMV

X2

For the "slow" folks, are you talking about the initial insert of the SD card or everyday use?

I add to my SD card once every couple of months, and yes it may take an extra 10 seconds to load, but once it's in there, it's instant music ( no delay on start up).

( 2014 with 8.4 AN, WMA files)

Re: GC - SD Card for my MP3 music , 8.4AN

Hi, thanks for all your replies.
On my new 2014 Summit Diesel, I just started using an SD card with great results.
8.4AN radio @ 14.25.5
Card: Sandisk 32GB Fat32 Class 10 48MB/s
Tunes: 2700
Structure: 1 main folder over several others; 1 for each artist.
Time to load about 4 mins. first time, instant after that.
I never remove the SD card, it is dedicated to this.
Playlists: the ones exported from MediaMonkey play perfectly.
Browsing: I can browse by album, artist, song name, and genre
Searching: type in 3 or 4 letters found in the object name and instantly they come up to choose from.
Album artwork displays perfectly
Note: I went through all the tunes and filled in any blank MP3 tags like artist or album or artwork so the indexing never misses.
That's it.

Both.

Initially, it takes a while to catalog everything so voice control will work.

However, I have about 50gb on a 64gb card and it takes around 30 seconds for the music to start once the driver distraction warning goes away at startup.

I will say, too, the shuffle function sucks. Why is it so hard for programmers put an algorithm in these players to avoid repeating a song until all others have played?

It's very annoying to hear the same song 3 times while I have another 17 days worth of music still to choose from.

Hmm,
Haven't tried the shuffle yet. But now you mention it, I sure will tomorrow.
Thanks for the heads-up.
Cheers

Do you have the Navi system?

If not, that's probably why you don't see a warning. It's a driver distraction message all built in GPS systems have.
