I looked at Rockauto and they only listed the iridium and platinum plugs. I read that they don't do well in this hemi. i am looking for the copper core ones.

Peckmv,
Try doing a search under the 2011 JGC 5.7 Hemi.

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

Changed the plugs last night. Done and cleaned up in an hour and a half. That includes taking a break to eat soem pizza when delivery guy showed up. Not that hard. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you do NOT need a "certified technician" to do this for you.

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

I have a 2012 GC with the 5.7 hemi. I just completed a round trip from Rochester, NY to Boston driving 420 miles each way on a single tank / leg. I had 40K miles when I departed and original plugs. Note my driving was almost exclusively expressway. Outbound I clocked 20.22 mpg and on the return 21.65 mpg. I've tracked my mileage every tank and it has remained consistent with combined city/highway approx. 17 mpg. Thus I see no need for a 32K plug change and plan to wait for 50K. My previous vehicle was a 98 Durango with the 5.2l. I sold it with 356K - still passing inspection - with plug changes at 100K intervals and thus have difficulty with the recommended 32K. I do plan to change the plugs myself using the excellent guidance from this forum.

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

I waited until 45,000. Jeep feels a little smoother. 32,000 seems earlier and I drive about 15,000 or more per year...

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

I found it unusual that the NGK Plugs were in a MOPAR box from the dealer. $5 a piece here. Changed them today in and hour or so.

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

I just changed my plugs with NGK OEM plugs @ 47,000 taking 1.5 hours from start to finish

The plugs removed looked excellent with the gap @ .044. My mileage was still 17 city/highway and 20-21 highway.

As others have noted on this form the procedure was relatively simple and I would recommend not spending $$$ to have a dealer do so.

Based upon my experience I will wait for another 60,000 before replacing the plugs,

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

Changed my plugs today with OEM NGK's. I'm at 30k and they were due. They were worn and some had a crusty plaque on them. I got them for $4.50 each off Ebay. This included shipping and no tax. It took about an hour and was easy to do. Dealer wanted $350 to change them.

Re: Hemi spark plug change interval?

They moved the spark plug change interval from 30k to 100k on the 2014 5.7L hemi. Anyone know if they changed the plug type? have not seen a part number on the 2014 plug it just says mopar spark plug?

I can't seem to find any info on the type of plug itself but the part number is SP143877AA. Based on the cost on the websites I looked at, I would assume that this is a rare metal (iridium or platinum) plug. Hmm maybe I'll look into that next time I change the plugs.
