couple questions,I was wondering when the plugs need to be changed on my 2011 Hemi? My dealer told me they need changing at 30k miles. My jeep currently has 26k miles, Should i go ahead and have them changed now or wait till 30k miles? Is this a DIY job or should i let the dealer do it? What else needs to be done at 30k miles? sorry if this has been answered before.
I'd look at your maintenance manual but I highly doubt you need to perform this work. I think most spark plugs last 110k miles....could be wrong because I don't own a jeep yet.
this is more of what i was thinking. though i have not owned a jeep yet, to change spark plugs out at 30k miles seems odd. i've owned mustangs my whole life and they will last 80k to 100k miles depending on the type of plug. Sounds like its the copper being used in the Hemi that would cause this.
Why not use iridium then, a better product? i put those in the mustang and not a single issue so far.
All in the glove box book. Frequency of oil and air filters depends on your driving conditions. Spark plugs are a significant item. You will need 16 of them. It is DIY, but a couple plugs are buggers. Easiest with some special tools.
Not sure why they list a time interval on the plugs. They don't go bad in 2 years :lol:

So easy a caveman can do it. Just make sure you use a torque wrench, as I believe the heads are aluminum.

Where are you spending $100 for at 16 plugs?
The plugs on the hemi need to be changed every 30k miles. Its all in the manual. The reason is they are copper core and they will wear in that time period. The high mileage plugs are made of platinum or iridum. The hemi requires the copper core plugs.
Spark plug change on the 5.7 is pretty easy; I've already done mine and will replace my wife's this weekend. if you have no experience changing plugs this isn't the vehicle I would want to learn on but if you are experienced it's an easy job.
I'd recommend a torque wrench too. The heads in the 5.7l are aluminum and there's a torque value associated with the plugs. At least there is in the Charger; I'm assuming it's the same Hemi. I can look it up if you need it.
When the spark plug replacement is added to the fuel mileage difference, the cost factor swings from Hemi to CRD. Actually, now I really want to compare the "feel" of driving the Hemi to driving the CRD before deciding.
Oh the previous owner did it at 30k ( I have all the service records) so I have a little while longer until I need to do it again. Just planning for the future I suppose.

It's about $35 worth of plugs, shipped from Rock Auto. I just ordered mine. You also get an $8 rebate on them.
Beats the heck out of the $15 Iridium plugs my old ride wanted, even though there were only 6.
I don't get why people talk about the plugs like it's some big expense. You do it less often than refill the piss tank on the diesel, and it's cheaper.
around $64 for the OEM plugs ordered online, about an hour or so of your time and change the plugs every 30-32k miles on the Hemi.
Oh, and you need 16 of them! Put the OEM copper plugs in - no reason to spend the $$$ for anything else when you have to change them every 32k miles. And no real improvement in performance gain with platinum plugs etc.
Got a quote from my dealer to do the plugs on my hemi. The plugs were $8 each and it was 1.7 hours of labor. Total cost $344.50. The plugs are NGK and am looking for a better price than $128 for 16 plugs. I'll do it myself.
Changed the plugs last night. Done and cleaned up in an hour and a half. That includes taking a break to eat soem pizza when delivery guy showed up. Not that hard. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you do NOT need a "certified technician" to do this for you.
I have a 2012 GC with the 5.7 hemi. I just completed a round trip from Rochester, NY to Boston driving 420 miles each way on a single tank / leg. I had 40K miles when I departed and original plugs. Note my driving was almost exclusively expressway. Outbound I clocked 20.22 mpg and on the return 21.65 mpg. I've tracked my mileage every tank and it has remained consistent with combined city/highway approx. 17 mpg. Thus I see no need for a 32K plug change and plan to wait for 50K. My previous vehicle was a 98 Durango with the 5.2l. I sold it with 356K - still passing inspection - with plug changes at 100K intervals and thus have difficulty with the recommended 32K. I do plan to change the plugs myself using the excellent guidance from this forum.
