Hemi spark plugs

It's about time for these to be changed on my Jeep. Has anyone changed them yet? Just wondering if anyone has any tricks or time-saving tips. Thanks.

Re: Hemi spark plugs

Time saving tip would be to install Iridium plugs like the Champion 9055 (REC12WMPB5) in the 5.7L. The plugs have a 7 year unlimited mileage warranty.
The metal shell is treated with a product to virtually eliminate rusting, corrosion and provides an anti-seize treatment on the threads.

Re: Hemi spark plugs

I am just gearing up to do this myself this week. There are a number of threads (on here and other forums w/ HEMI owners) which caution using anything but the OEM NGK copper spark plugs. Here is a link to a write-up done by an 07' WK owner, I think the process should be pretty similar for the WK2 HEMI.
(HOW TO: Change the Spark Plugs on an 07 WK 5.7L)

Re: Hemi spark plugs

My dealer installed mine, so I'd say no.

Re: Hemi spark plugs

Don't use a taper guage when gapping Iridium plugs. Use a tong type.

Re: Hemi spark plugs

If you buy Iridiums, you still have to change them per the manual -- as long as you are under warranty. Thus, you'll be wasting money. I'd stick with coppers also. Chrysler is silly like that, and there must be a reason. Neons ran best on coppers as well (had a 2nd gen back in the day).

Re: Hemi spark plugs

Yeah its something to do with the spark pattern and wear characteristics... I recall reading a good technical explanation awhile back. The V8 does not perform as well with the Iridium design. Std Copper is better.

Re: Hemi spark plugs

If copper core plugs were better for the 5.7L, then why would Champion develop an Iridium replacement?

Re: Hemi spark plugs

I changed mine with the plugs called out in the service manual; too many threads warning against using other plugs. Actually it was pretty easy. Lowering the Quadra- Lift to Park made it easier to get to the rear plugs. I was worried I might not get to some but it went well. Wife's is up next and I expect it to go a little faster this time.

By the way the plugs were changed at 31,000 and they still looked pretty good.
30K it is....I would rather stick to the recommended interval than try and save a few bucks.
