HOAT and OAT Coolant

I'm pretty sure you cannot mix HOAT with the purple OAT coolant , but can you mix OAT with HOAT the other way?? Or should either neither ever cross paths?? THANKS !

Re: HOAT and OAT Coolant

correctamundo "silvermax04"....per the linked TSB on the release of OAT:

CAUTION: Vehicle Damage may occur if dissimilar coolants are mixed!
Coolants of different technologies are not compatible nor interchangeable (OAT, HOAT or IAT).

Mixing these coolants could result in:

• accelerated corrosion within the engine and cooling systems.
• the coolant having an ammonia smell.
• debris (particles) floating in the coolant.

Further inspection by the technician may find corrosion in the system. This could show up as aluminum pipes turning black in the coolant system, engine overheat, or leaks in the coolant system.

NOTE: If OAT (MOPAR P/N 68163848AA Purple) has been Mixed with HOAT (MOPAR P/N 68048953AB Pink Or Factory Fill HOAT Orange (Fig. 2) or (Fig. 3)) or any other coolants have been mixed, it will be necessary to flush the cooling system.

Re: HOAT and OAT Coolant

Just a follow up on the purple coolant from Chrysler, I'm copying a post from elsewhere below. seems like the latest dex-cool OAT is identical, except for the color.

Valvoline makes the GM Dexcool and around 2006, GM stopped using the 2-EHA. Around 2011, the ingredients in Dexcool were revised again. So I asked why is Chrysler stating the only OAT antifreeze to use in the 2013 is theirs and he said money/marketing. Another company currently makes the new Mopar OAT. While Chrysler didn't publicly announce the chemical composition, Valvoline got their hands on this OAT and ran some tests. Come to find out it's formulation is the same as the latest Dexcool. Same stuff, just different color.

Valvoline tech Ronnie finished by saying Valvoline has been getting a ton of phone calls asking what Zerex coolant can be safely used in the 2013 lineup of Chrysler vehicles requiring OAT. The advice from Valvoline is buy the dealer version if it makes you feel better or buy the Zerex Dexcool for about half the price and get the same antifreeze except for the color.
Zerex OAT Dexcool.
