Nothing special to it. FWIW, I used to use Penzoil Platinum and kept my eyes open for the "oil change special" at the local Advance Auto. The 5 quart jugs are $20 when you buy a Purolator filter.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I changed to synthetic at 1000k Miles on the Hemi 5.7L. Pennzoil Ultra synthetic 5w20 is only $26 at walmart for the 5 quart jug. SRT uses Ultra so that's good enough for me. Will probably do changes at 6000k miles in fall and spring. I don't have that hemi tick that everyone talks about does the synthetic stop that?

Silver&evil...you two are the first I've seen reference using Penzoil, seems everyone else uses Mopar or RP. Any takeaways from using it? I know nothing much about brands except what people have stated in the forms and a few lab reports I've seen...

My local AAP has the $20 special right now,and my local dealership has the Mopar filter for 5.95, so I'll probably grab a filter for my other car and use Mopar in the jeep =)

I think for synthetics Mobil 1, Pennzoil Ultra and Castrol Edge are all good choices at a good price and I have used them all in past cars. If you want to spend a little more Royal Purple and Amsoil I am sure are probably the best oils but I have no experience with them, mainly because I don't think I would pay the extra for them at every oil change. I settled on Pennzoil ultra for the jeep only because they put it in the SRT so felt it was a good choice also for the 5.7L also but I think the Ultra, Edge or mobil 1 are all fine. Plus the fact you can pickup the 5 qt 5w20 jugs of Ultra or the Edge at Walmart for $26 which is almost half of what the auto parts stores charge for it per quart so you cant beat that for price. I just stick with the mopar filters the only ones I have heard to really avoid are the fram. Just my opinion hope that helps

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I totally changed my opinion about royal purple. Although the truck seems to run fine I checked the oil only to find out levels were low. Didn't think much of it and added some until I was in the "safe" zone. Checked again a few days later and a 6 hr road trip and levels were low again. Back to Mobil 1 and problem solved. Read online about people having engine problems due to unexpected oil burn with this brand. Never again.

then i have nothing... lol. not sure why it would be burning that much oil that fast. ive used it in 2 ls1's "camaro/trans am/corvette motors". a 3800 series II motor-"v6", and a ford 2.0 ,4 banger , and on my 4.0 WJ, with great results.. i haven't used it in my hemi yet, but the only one ive had use oil was my TA and i attribute that to a bad PCV valve as it is plagued with the same issues as the hemi and needs a catch can.

Well, I switched to Amsoil from Penzoil. However, I will say that upon switching to the Penzoil the first change came out B L A C K! The second one was much more "tan", if you will. While I have no lab report to substantiate it, I believe it has an excellent detergent package and the lubrication system got a good cleansing from it. The current Amsoil fill is still caramel color at 3000+ miles and I only get the "tick" for about 3 seconds at start up if she has been sitting for days and days. Sometimes I go 3-5 days without driving it. I prefer 2 wheels!
Never had to top it up between changes either.

What is the price difference rfrom a regular oil change compared to a synthetic oil change? I have a 2014 GCL and plan to get my first oil change at 3000 miles. I have never used synthetic oil in any of my cars but I am leaning towards making the change on my first oil change in my new Jeep. Any information you could give would be awesome.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Well, do you do it yourself? If so, the difference is nominal. You might pay about $10 more per gallon +/-. If you have someone else do it then it could be more significant. I would definitely recommend you take the 30 minutes to do it yourself.
Conventional Pennzoil is around $26 per 5qt jug Buy Pennzoil 5W-20 Conventional Motor Oil (5 Plus Quarts Jug) 550028488 at Advance Auto Parts

Amsoil ranges from $24 (OEM Synthetic) to $39 (Premium Synthetic) per gallon 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 3.6L 6-cyl Engine Code [G] ERB Flex-fuel - AMSOIL Online Product Application Guide

Thanks Evil for the info. I traditionally aren't one I myself because the set up at my house isn't ideal... No garage, steep driveway and my street is on a hill. I always heard synthetic was more expensive but I just didn't know how much!
