Although it is true that condensation can get into your oil, it only stays there if the temperature of that oil stays under boiling, which is one reason short trips are engine killers.

Otherwise, within a few miles as the oil hits its operating temperature, the moisture will be boiled out.

Sludge? Haven't seen a sludged engine since the 70s or so.

I've heard that you should switch to a synthetic blend before going full synthetic. Is there any truth to this ? If it matters its a 2011 Laredo 3.6 w/ 51,000 miles

There is no need to "condition" your engine for preparation for full synthetic. I have heard such myths before as well.

Also, switching to synthetic can be done regardless of how many miles are on an engine, some seem to think you can't do it with a higher mileage engine if that engine has never run synthetic, which is false.

Furthermore, there are myths that switching to a synthetic will cause all your seals to start leaking, and you will start burning oil JUST BECAUSE it is a synthetic, which is also false...HOWEVER, some truth can be told in this, as certain detergents can clean better then others, and some synthetics have some great detergent packages which could break up sludge, that could have literally been the only thing holding back a bad seal in the first place...

So while it won't "damage" your engine, if something was already wrong with it, and "sludge" was holding it together, theoretically, it could start to leak oil as it breaks up the sludge holding the seals "tight" so to speak, which can be viewed two ways....

Personally, If my stuff was messed up, I'd want to fix it, not coat it in SH*T and hope they problem goes away...

I have been running RP on all of my vehicles for many years now....

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

The V6 Jeep was swapped over to QS 5w30 Full synthetic at 40 K Km (24k) when we bought it this summer. Plan to schedule a 7500 km or 4 mth interval (3 per year) which is same cost as 4 dyno oil changes per year. - One of my Hemi Motors although not a new Eagle Hemi which has MDS retained runs the Redline Synthetic 5w20 & Long Mobil M301 Filter & 6.1 Oil pump, etc.

Garage
I switched over on my first oil change. Had the dealer use my oil since I have free oil changes for the first 3 years and bought my oil from Walmart.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Our local dealer now offers the 4 synthetic oil changes for $180, they only used to offer conventional package.

Evolv0 is just really nice
Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I switched over to synthetic on my first oil change at 3K miles.. I put Mobil1 5w-30EP with a royal purple filter.

I'm coming up to 6,200miles right now and 2 things I notices from switching, a quieter motor and a more smooth acceleration.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

These engines do not need synthetic. Convential oil technology has made hunge imporvements over the years. Unless you are racing your Jeep and/or have a supercharger or turbo, you don't need synthetic. It's a waste of your money.

I put 130k miles on a 2008 GC and changed the oil every 6k miles. the new ower has over 160k on it now and has done the same. All I did was change tires, battery and tune up on that car. Nothing else.

My 12 Overland only sees regular oil as well.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Well I did my first synthetic oil change about 4 months ago, which has equated to 3,600 miles. I used Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20, and ny jeep is already telling me "Oil Change Due". I thought it was supposed to be some smart system that analyzed the oil to determine when an OC was due? Hard to imagine 3,600 miles on synthetic already being due for a change
