Haha cars aren't that smart yet, you still need to reset your oil indicator % everytime you change your oil. the truck still thinks your old oil is in there.

I reset it at the time of that oil change. It's funny, reading the wk2jeeps article says the 2011 new oil change maintenance schedule is now 6 months / 8,000 miles, or 4,000 in severe conditions. Guess I'll reset it and keep driving for a while before another change =)

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Coming from the TDI world where there were numerous threads about oil. My take on it is that if you change every 3 or 4K any oil is going to be fine. If you are going to go up to 10 K synthetic is your only choice. Having the diesel it is my only choice but I switched to syntetic in my 202 envoy because I think that knowing that the oil is not going to break down on me is worth a little added cost. Not saying it would fail with regular oil only that the margin of error is much greater with synthetic.

The engine controller in the Jeep will determine when engine oil change is required, this done by calculations of idle time, temp, engine load % and several other factors, is does not actually analyze the oil, or even know you used synthetic oil in the oil change. Manufacture sill recommends oil change at same interval using conventional oil or synthetic oil. Also if oil change message is not on when resetting message, never know if you actually really reset it or not, when message is on, sometimes takes a couple of tries to reset it.
Hope this helps.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I switched over to Synthetic oil on my first oil change. (aprox 4000km)
I went with Amsoil's Signature series 5W20.

The Signature series oil is good for 25,000 miles/40,000Kms or 1yr
what ever comes first, not that I ever want to test those mileage specs.
Either way I figure the weak point has to be the oil filter.
With the 3.6 oil filter on top, its low cost, its easy to change and its no mess, I'll change it mid point or in the early spring.

Is this over kill....... YEP!
But it gives me a good peace of mind, and when I sell it, the next owner
will be happy I did!

Now trying to research which Syn oil was better was an headache.
Long story short, the above oil was one of the very few I could find that was a 100% Synthetic group IV oil.
And at least indicated it met the requirements for Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395 spec.

I definitely agree with that.

But on this I would think that 5w-30 would be the thickest I would go, especially for our similar climates, considering that the motor calls for 5w-20 ...

Im only asking why your going with 5W-50 because isn't Switzerland cold? that weight oil could be rough on those freezing morning cold starts.
