Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I finally did my first oil change at 750 miles on my 2014 GC Limited using Mobile 1 EP. After this I will be switch to Amsoil SSO. I have been using Amsoil on my previous car and currently on my wife car.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

I switched at 30k miles. I am the second owner of an otherwise factory maintained 2011 LTD, 5.7. I switched it to Castrol Edge 5w20 full synthetic. I usually use Mobil 1, but the Castrol had Chrysler's approval for use on their products.

I never had the "Hemi tick". I am still planning on changing the oil when the EVIC message displays or every 5k miles, which ever comes first. The oil and filter are still cheaper than a new Hemi!

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Just switched last week to synthetic oil in my V6 JGC. I feel the difference and I am not sure when I should change the oil next time

I wanted to share with you all that the dealer have offered 4 times of synthetic oil (5w30)+filter changes for $190 only , since I cannot do it myself (apartment complex ) the price is really good in my opinion.

It typically costs me $30 for 6qts Pennzoil Ultra 5w-20 Full Synthetic from Walmart. I have the dealer perform the oil change and install a new filter which costs me about $15. So $45 per oil change. 4 x $45 = $180. So, $190 is a decent price.

On a side note, it looks like Pennzoil is replacing their Ultra product with a new product called Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. "Pennzoil Ultra Platinum™ Full Synthetic motor oil with PurePlus™ Technology will phase out Pennzoil Ultra over time."

You know....
I've been on 4 forums for vehicles I own (wow, that few vehicles since the Internet became what it is).
I've heard many tales of woe from people about oil consumption and how the engine shouldn't consume blah-blah quarts of oil between oil changes.

I have never changed out the factory oil until at least 3000 miles.
New cars that I have owned after the year 2000:
My Ford I used full synthetic after the factory change at 5000 miles.
My Subaru I used full synthetic after the factory change at 4000 miles.
My Jeep I used full synthetic after the factory change at 6000 miles (now going with 8000 mile interval).

My wife's Toyota RAV4 V6 ran conventional until about 40K miles and now runs full synthetic, first oil change was at the recommended first interval.

Why do I mention all this?
NONE of our vehicles have EVER consumed oil between oil changes. We have had to add a little during the 'run in' with the factory oil, but after that nada/nothing/zip.

I am thoroughly convinced that people that change out the factory oil too early are the ones who end up with engines that consume oil between oil changes.

+1

That and they're wasting their money. With every new car I've purchased (and I've owned quite a few), I've always waited to change out the factory dino oil until 3000 miles for a turbo engine...5000 miles for a non-turbo engine before making the switch to synthetic oil, and NONE of my cars ever needed additional oil between oil changes...NEVER.

Switched mine to Mobil1 at 1000 and can't figure out why it's not consuming oil yet at 5,000 miles.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

Granted I have only owned two new cars before, the first was a 2007 Nissan Altima 3.5SE and I have switched to synthetic Pennzoil Platinum after 500 miles, and then switch to AMSOIL SSO after 3000 miles and never have oil consumption at 87000 miles before I traded in for the Jeep. The second car which belong to my wife is a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS, I have switch to synthetic Pennzoil Platinum after 1000 miles and then at 3000 miles to AMSOIL SSO and I am at 40000 miles with no oil consumption. My Jeep is close to 3000 miles on Mobil 1 EP and I still don't have oil consumption. Guess I am lucky.

Re: How many have switched to a full synthetic oil?

5,000 miles is when I change over as well, I haven't had a oil burner since the 80's POS 442 Cutlass it was pretty though
