Great tips. Just installed the factory hitch. What suggestions for the old inner bumper. The worst part was removing the three lower tabs on the wheel well covers.

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Just did the install. The pics made it just over an hour job, very easy. Factory wiring in place under the back, just plug in the adapter and snap it to the hitch.
I used my Roto Zip to cut the slots and the hole for the trim, makes it very easy

May I ask why it won't work for the '14 overland? Is it because of the painted lower trim? What are my options if I decide to add the hitch? TIA

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Has anyone here installed the harness? I'm in the middle of the install and the two pins that going the plug under the TIPM will not insert into the plug. Nothing I try works. There were two dummy pins in there that I had to remove. Any ideas? It is pins 47 and 48 on the "G" connector under the TIPM.

Yes, sorry about that, it can also be used on the overland, I'm sure the black bezel and painted fascia wouldn't be a bad combo.
Btw, this does work on the '14 models, just did the install. Thanks again for the write up!

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Thank you for the write up. This really helped with my install.

I am stuck at the wiring now and wonder if any of you can provide any insight. When I got my WK2 they did an aftermarket hitch install. So I decided to take that off in favor of the OEM install this past weekend. Got everything on and now am down to the hitch connector. I have the factory hitch connector, but seem to be missing the plug that plugs into the back of it. There is nothing from the old hitch adapter that plugs into it. As a matter of fact, I even had to reconnect the wires back to the relay and stuff it in the hitch for now so the tail lights work.

Does anyone know where I can find this plug that I wire to and plug into the back of the factory hitch connector?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

I'm about to order the hitch kit with the wiring harness for my 2011 Laredo. For those that did the wiring harnesses also, are the instructions sufficient?

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

sorry can't help on wiring install, mine already was hard wired, just needed plug and flash to get it to work, did not have to wire anything, have you checked under your rear bumper to make sure you do not already have the factory wiring in your Jeep, mine is a 2012
Laredo X.
