Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Did mine yesterday.Local dealer pretty much matched online pricing for the hitch and 5/7 connector (thanks Matt). Took about 3.5 hours. Biggest pain was cutting the bumper. Looks good, thanks to the op for the post!

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Installed the factor hitch last night with my dad's help. Took about 90 minutes all in all. Having all the right tools really helps, no clips broken!

Thanks to mineralsc for this post and all the pictures, gave me the confidence to try it rather then waste money at the dealer. Was able to do the install mostly from memory after reading this post.

Dealer wants $118 (one hour labor rate) to activate the wiring harness...... what a joke.

Sent Jeep an email, lets see if they offer anything......

Are you in the MD area? I remember you stating that before and I did mention the wild price ranges people have mentioned in my statement to Jeep.

No Sorry, I am in Gwinnett county in GA. Hayes Chrysler Jeep was where I went to have mine activated.

I have a question hopping anyone could help me with:

Where does the blue brake control wire connects to after going under the cowl extension and sealing to grommet?

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Does anyone know if there is anything specific that you need for the diesel? Or is it all the same?

Thanks!

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

Thanks for the post made things a bit easier. Having the right tools always helps as well. One problem I encountered that no one else seemed to have had a problem with was removing the 21mm bolts holding in the original crossbar.

Re: How to: OEM hitch Install

The dealer we bought the WK2 from was supposed to have activated the trailer wiring when we purchased it. I installed the hitch the trailer plug later at home. I checked the plug with a trailer wiring tester and it is only lighting on the 12V pin. Also confirmed with a meter that I only see voltage between the 12V pin and ground. Can someone confirm that this means the dealer didn't activated the wiring like they said they did and charged me for it?
