Agreed, but without buying the rack or hitch carrier that's all you can do. There's no magic tie down point that will appear by whining on Jeepgarage. Its one trip. Suck it up and tie it to the window frames or through the windows or buy the roof rack.

The MDX has them as an option yes, and Audi has flush rails like the Jeep. But, I wouldn't consider crossover SUVs like them to be of the same caliber as the Jeep. The Jeep is a "real SUV", you should be able to tie something down to the OEM rack. Like you can on a Toyota Rav4...or a Toyota Sienna Minivan for God's sake. Next why don't we say its okay for a Jeep to have 5 inches of ground clearance because other mini SUVs have that?

But again...the point is I have an SUV...I shouldn't have to go buy a deer carrier...and have to store a deer carrier...when I don't carry deer...so I can go buy a Christmas tree once a year. The whole point of buying an SUV to me is having a vehicle with the capability to do those little things I want it to do...to be able to get down any dirt road or trail when we're on vacation or camping, to be able to haul stuff around, tow a trailer should I need to...and yes have something I can easily put a Christmas tree on top of when it comes time to do that. As it is, I could have taken the Lexus or the Jeep to go get the tree and it would have been equally effective. Thats just plain stupid engineering on Jeep's part.

Sorry to be redundant, but as you can tell it really irks me...
There are many reasons to buy a SUV, maybe you should have brought a christmas tree to the dealer when you purchased your car

what he said.......just brought home a 9' tree. Place blanket down to protect roof area. Suspension in Park mode (easier for loading). Trunk facing forward the tie-down through the windows. Only traveled on the back-roads.

While I do take care of my Jeep, it is meant to be used for "utility" purposes.

Re: How to tie down a Christmas tree?

And I also appreciate that Jeep saved me 300 off the sticker by not automatically putting it on the Jeep and probably some gas too cause it's less wind resistance. You spent 30k on it. Better than 30300. And if it makes you feel any better my 45k summit doesn't have one either.

How about Landrover LR4 then? It sells the rails separately and it is an "suv" with all the criteria you specify and a higher price point.
