Re: LED Approach/Entry/Puddle Lighting Mod write-up!!!

As an update (I'll eventually get pics posted here), I've had these installed since the start of May and we've had some serious rain here in NJ and have gotten the bottom of the car very soaked and there has been no issue at all. The lights are working like champs. I might have gone overboard with my waterproofing but better to be safe than sorry.
The other night I was approaching from the rear to get to the lift gate and thought that it would be nice to have the same lights under the rear. That's coming up next.

That plastidip is good sh!t. I use that to waterproof toggle switches and all sorts of other crap. Good call on that one. I think instead of getting burned on ebay ordering some crappy made strips, i might just hit up my local auto parts store and see what they got.

Re: LED Approach/Entry/Puddle Lighting Mod write-up!!!

This looks like a fun and cool mod. I may steal this idea and do it on my vehicle too.

But question though. I don't see any spec ratings for the LED strips. The only thing I can find is the voltage. What about drawing and such. Shouldn't we be concerned about melting or burning shit?

6K WHITE EXTERIOR WATERPROOF LED STRIP LIGHTS

Even though it says "waterproof". In the spec portion, it just states "water resistant". Not very comforting.

Re: LED Approach/Entry/Puddle Lighting Mod write-up!!!

I just got done doing this mode. It appears I ran my LED strips at the same place as jeelo.

I also cracked my passenger side kick panel. I thought it was behind held in by clips. Not really, LOL. At least they are cheap I guess. I tried Plastic-Weld, but that didn't work.

We'll see how it holds up.

I got the blue Led Lights for grill and floor lighting from PlasmaGlow. Used their products on my corvette also. The LED Projector lights I got from MrKustom. You can google both companies for their websites.

Re: LED Approach/Entry/Puddle Lighting Mod write-up!!!

Thanks for this idea - I did this install over this past weekend and it came out well. I ordered waterproof led strips from superbrightleds.com. I removed the black rubber grommet underneath as well as the interior foot well/kick plates to expose the frame of the car. From there I used a coat hanger to run the wire through the insulation (spray foam) and then used wire clips to tie into the foot well light. I zip-tied the led strip to the bottom of the frame so it is nice and secure. Finally, I was able to get the grommet back in, but put caulk all around it to ensure a seal. Looks great over all. Thanks!
