Led running lights/DRL on WK2 2012

Hello guys. Here is my version of DRL installation on WK2 2012. The goal was - to make them look as close as possible to factory installed. Do not know if I succeeded.
I used Philips daylight8

I really like that, even the wife thought it looked sharp.

Brilliant idea....
Might have to do that myself and have the dealer turn off the high-beam DRLs.

That looks pretty nice and could definately look factory for someone that does not own a JGC, good job nice skills.

So you run these light on a separate switch or were you able to some how tied them into the factory DRL (thats if the 2012 has DRL options) also if you went on the toggle switch options do you turn them off at night?

Mine is Laredo so no factory DRL. The DRL set that I installed comes with control box which is connected to + & - ports and parking lights line. When engine is running the DRL are in normal mode and when car lights are on they automatically switch to night mode (dimmed).

Yes after i posted, went and did a bit of research and saw the control box and it's features. Awesome job on your part though kudos.

Actually you do...
I had my dealer turn on the DRLs on my Laredo (Laredo X package, but still...).

You obviously aren't interested any more, but if someone doesn't have the funds to spend on the Philips LEDs (damn they are spendy!), just search through my posts. I gave instructions for your local dealer in one of my posts.

Re: Led running lights/DRL on WK2 2012

Naskarov,

I have a 2013 WK2 Laredo with the chrome grill and the same set of Philips DRL's as yours that have been sitting in a box in my garage for the past year (couldn't find a place to mount them externally). I would like to do what you have done and embed them into the grill.
Can you advise what tools you used to cut the slots into the grill?
Any words of advice/tips regarding the experience you had in doing it?

Note for the remainder of this thread:
I have Philips Crystal Vision Ultra bulbs for my normal headlights all the way around, very white in color temp, very bright and very pleased! I had the dealer activate the Highbeams for DRL's and they looked terrible, the pulse modulation at 50% illumination still turned that bulb into looking "brown".
If you have a 2014 or later, you can have the dealer activate the low beams and with the Philips Crystal Vision Ultra's they will look white during the day.

Another option, like the Dodge Challenger and Dart, is to activate the deep amber turn signals as DRL's. The unit can be found here for $39, get the DRL-1 Sequential Turn Signals, One Touch Turn Signals, Challenger Sequential Taillights, Sequential Tail Lights,Pulsing Brake Light Pulser Flasher, Mustang, Dynamite Stick Sequential, Pulsing Brake Light Pulser Flasher, Raxiom, Amrerican Muscle, Stack Raci (I have one but if install the embedded LED Kit it may become available)!
