Re: Long Jeep, short garage

Thanks for the many suggestions! I've tried the masking tape on the garage wall, creeping up to the work bench, etc. The tennis ball gimmick won't work because of the wind shoving it around on a regular basis. I can't use the b/u camera because I want to pull into the garage so I can open the liftgate--can't do that against the work bench.

My current idea is to take a short section of a broken fly rod tip and fasten it to the front of the work bench in such a way so that when I'm in the right place the tip "quivers."

When I think about all the electronics in my 2014 Jeep GC Limited, I have to laugh that I'm building a Rube Goldberg device to position the Jeep in the garage.

My father used the hanging tennis ball when I was a kid. Our yellow lab was in the garage one day and decided he wanted the tennis ball. He jumped up on the hood of my dads Mercedes 560SL and got the ball. Needless to say that was the end of using tennis balls to park the car.

Garage
Re: Long Jeep, short garage

I use a parking laser. I bought the dual laser but use it for only my Jeep. One hits the jeep center speaker when I first enter the garage to make sure I am entering correctly and the second one hits the center speaker when I have reached my final spot. This gets my jeep stopped at the correct spot but also keeps me straight.

I can park within 1/2 inch of where I need it to be.

Re: Long Jeep, short garage

This looks like it might work out just fine. You can just watch the last 45 seconds to get the idea.

I used to like him... but lately he's jumped the shark with his political views.

Wood blocks on the floor that I run into when I'm far enough into the garage.

Re: Long Jeep, short garage

Here is what we got for my father in law for his big honking Mercury Marquis in a short garage. Inexpensive and works well. It lights up as soon as your front bumper touches it. And it is portable and can be moved out of the way, or stuck to the floor with double-stick foam tape if you wish. Best luck.

Another approach is to install a small mirror to your side-wall or bench that allows you to see the space between the bumper and point of impact.

Re: Long Jeep, short garage

I have one of those $10 stop signs that I got from either TJ Max or Marshalls I don't recall which one exactly. I guess you can also get them at other places like Walmart, or Homedepot, or Target.

Edit: Justal13 beat me. I have the same one as on his Amazon link. It's a piece of junk and it stopped flashing in a couple of weeks but regardless it still serves its purpose.
