Mileage between oil changes

I have had my jeep for about 6 months now and have around 9000 miles on it. The oil change light came on around the first 3000 miles and I went and got it changed. It has been close to 6000 miles and I have not received the notification to change the oil. I the system does not work like like the old counters that just counted down the miles. The new system takes into account the variables. But my question is how many miles are you going between oil changes after the first one.
If it matters I have the 5.7L and drive 50% highway and 50% city.
Thanks,

Look in the owner's manual.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

You should go at 8000 miles per the manual.
The dealer wants you to go every 3000 miles.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

I thought you should only change it when the red oil light comes on and it is making that funny ticking noise?

Re: Mileage between oil changes

I had my first oil change at 6000 mi. and the oil change indicator never appeared. Then at 9000 mi the indicator chimed for an oil change. My driving habits are consistent so I can't understand to why it said to change oil at a much shorter interval than the first time.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

My guess is you did not reset the oil change indicator, therefore the computer just went by your driving habits and mileage combo. Just a thought. But the manual does state 8,000 miles or 6 months for an oil change, whichever comes first, to keep your warranty valid. Many folks on here seem to miss that point. Do a search for oil change reset procedures or see instructions for the EVIC.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

I had the dealer do the oil change. You would think that they would have reset it but who the heck knows what those guys do and don't do.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

Odd but they do some strange things at times, just as though they were human. You might try the reset, it worked for me.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

My first was at 4,500 and that was with using E-85, then I switched to Reg Fuel as it is now much cheaper, anyway right now I'm at 10k and still no message to change oil. Soon I'm guessing.

Re: Mileage between oil changes

you guys should really decide on the oil and filter you want to use....then have your oil tested after each change with blackstone labs. They can nail down a good interval forr you

Re: Mileage between oil changes

I saw where the SRT group switched to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic from Mobil 1. Sorry if I missed the reason but does anyone know why exactly, Scott?
