Mirror cover removal

I'm thinking about changing or painting my chrome mirror covers. A search of the forum found several who have changed the mirror covers, but no one really detailed the removal and replacement. Is it hard to do, or do they just snap off and on? A procedure would be appreciated.
thanks.

Re: Mirror cover removal

You first need to remove the mirror glass by tilting them outboard as far as possible, then prying them off of their adhesive mount. Force is needed with enough finess not to break them. Inside near the neck is a screw that is removed, then you can see several tabs that lock the covers on/off. Sorry, no photos.

Re: Mirror cover removal

Thanks, sounds scary. So, you need to re-glue the mirrors back on? Are there guides to re-align the mirror?

Re: Mirror cover removal

It's really not that bad, and everything snaps back together, with the exception of the screw that you need to put back. Once you do one, the other is really easy.

Re: Mirror cover removal

Anyone know what's required to do the same to the rear hatch chrome strip? Can it just be removed and left off, or would that leave a void in that space?

Re: Mirror cover removal

Link is no longer working.

I'm looking to replace the chrome mirror caps on my soon to arrive 2012 Summit with color matching Brillant Black mirror caps.
Try this link for instructions;
http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82212218.pdf

This is the trim look found on the 2012 SRT8 Grands. I 'll also replace the Summit Chrome bi-xenon headlight assembles with the blacked out SRT8 bi-xenon units.

Can see if anyone wants to trade, or get a body shop to color match the caps you have they should be able to get the paint to stick well..
