Hi, I'm looking at trading up y 2012 Overland to a 2015 Summit. Can anyone advise if it is possible to fit the mopar rock rails to the summit. Is there problem with either the Summit fender trim or the trim under the doors that needs to be removed for fitment of the rock rails?
If so, is it possible to modify either the rock rail slightly or the fender to get them to fit?
It is possible but there are some issues fitting Mopar rock rails to summit
Don't remember the details but
zybane did a write up, search forum for his experience on a 2014 Summit
Above is a link to Robertjeep's build who did the rock rails on his 2014 Summit. From the sounds of it, looks like the only issue was that it didn't line up with the fenders.
I notice your sig indicates Rockrails...are they installed yet? There was another user inquiring if there were any issues fitting these on the 2015, as it seems his dealer told him they would not be compatable.
(Ps my sig also indicates the Rockrails but mine are not actually installed as yet)
Yes I have installed the rock rails on my Overland - a bit trickier than last time, as I think I had a slightly older variant of the rails which whist they fitted needed a bit more coaxing into place - particularly the 3 lug bolts / nuts on the underside and getting them to grip when tightening them up.
Telliottaus. I am the member who was posting asking if they fit the 15 diesel. One question that I have is about that plastic harness that runs just inboard of the pinch weld. Do the bolts interfere with that. Can you provide a picture of that area so I can show my dealer and convince them the Mopar parts rep is just misinformed? I can see from under that the DEF skid is nowhere near that area so I don't know why they are telling me it won't fit. Thanks!
My dealer has opted out of the install. Seems they can't line up the underside bolts you mentioned.
Did you have issues getting them to line up?
Anyway my options now are to have the rails returned, or take to a body shop to install.
Dealer told me they need to drill to get fitted which they didn't want to do.
I have an appointment on Friday for the install. I asked my parts guy to go back to their rep for a second opinion. I informed them that people on the forum say it fits fine on 15 Diesel and that I don't see what could be the interference. They later came back agreeing that it fits. I hope the service people stick to the 2.5 hour estimate when I show up for the actual install. Getting my first oil change too! 3,500 miles.
Hey Thunder. Glad to hear you got them installed. My dealer got them on after some struggles. Everything is great with the fit but my guy left a bolt or two in the frame or somewhere so when I go around a turn I hear it rattling around in there. I am hopeful that I can get it to get jamed in some nuck eventually.
I updated my thread in the Diesel section with pics of rockrails and DOM42 fuel cap.
Only issue I have is my Mopar molded splash guard is not going to work with the rails installed....unless someone knows a trick I don't LOL. I am currently looking into alternate splash guards. So for now, I have rear guards but nothing on the fronts.
I have the mopar mud flaps with rock rail on MY14 Overland
Remove a small amount of the flap, see photo
Use a grease pencil to trace along the rock rail
