I used it. I drilled a small hole in the kick plate and mounted the bracket over top of the kick plate. I ran the wiring through the hole for the diagnostic port wrapped in loom to protect it from the sharp edges and tada I have controller. It is not in the a knee bashing position or anything. The shop may curse me though. I may have made it difficult to get into port. I think it will work though. Here is a picture
Thanks, sdsyve !
I just finished my installation doing exactly what you did. 2012 Overland, Draw-tite Activator II brake controller. My bracket has left and right side anchoring screws so I was not sure the one bolt you mention would be sufficient, but it certainly was. The female plug was fixed on top of the harness plug above the emergency brake thus not the easiest to plug into, but not a big deal. All controls on the controller are accessible and the readout can be seen easily enough. Unit is totally out of the way of my leg traffic. Could be easily removed and reinstalled if desired, but I see no reason to take it out even temporarily.
All in all, and easy and efficient install.
