Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

Here's what the V8 engine looks like. We mounted the ARB on the plate in front of the power distribution center on the passenger side

Im interested to see how you go with this. There isnt alot of room in the diesel engine bay

Don't think it's going to work. Might go to a arb stockist to see if I can see if it will fit before buying

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

For what it's worth, before finding this, I was considering hiding the compressor in the back near the spare. Either in the corners of the "dish" it sits in, or possibly under the dish. It comes out pretty easily, and looks like there was space back there. Especially so if you don't have the air suspension (I do, so I have a big tank right behind the rear seats under the floor)

Good point. Only pain is that you need to unload stuff out the boot if you want to get to it

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

Not necessarily. Run the switch to the dash, and run an air line to somewhere accessible. I can't find it, but I saw a build with a WJ that stuck the compressor in the spare tire wheel, and ran an air line to inside of the D pillar so you could get access to it easily. I'll keep digging and see if I can find the write up.

Bought the compressor this weekend, an now to fit. I may, as suggested, stick it in the boot.
I thought I'd run a short line from the compressor, and have a outlet pipe in the boot fitted into the plastic above the sub woofer. I'd also stick the switch there. My only concern is that the connector gets so hot it will melt the plastic...

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

The outlet connector won't get hot. Chemistry's PV = nRT says that expanding air actually gets colder, not hotter. I've seen other builds where they put a an connector in the interior plastic as well.
The compressor itself may run a bit hot if you're using it a lot and it doesn't have much ventilation, but these ARB's aren't built for heavy use anyway, so shouldn't be a problem. Plus the rest of us run them in the engine compartment which gets way hotter.

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

Has anyone had problems with the check engine light coming on with the compressor in this spot? Just placing or removing the compressor (with all the wiring staying where it is) causes my check engine light to come on (in place) or go off (removed).

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

I've not seen this thread before, very cool! Any chance someone mounted the cheaper MV50 compressor the same way? I have the V6.

ARB compressor mounted at the rear of the engine bay. Plastic shroud had to be cut to allow it to fit

Hibernator, nice work.

Were the power cables long enough to go to your battery without modification?

Where did you source your buttons for inside the cab? Any direction on install for those?

Any more pics or details you could provide would be great.
