Hmm...I hadn't thought of the threaded stand off idea. I came to the same conclusions about locations though. I was planning on having it on the dash in an elaborate custom cabinet made to match the interior and wrapped with the same leather as the dash so that it looked "factory" but I think I like your idea better (not to mention I like the cost alot better too) .

So why do you think CB is old school? Here in Oz it's a "must have" when traveling in the outback or going off-road. I have little hand held unit in the glove box. It's all one needs to communicate vehicle to vehicle.

You just don't see them very often. When I was growing up they were everywhere. Since cell phones weren't a thing (unless you were rich and lugged around a briefcase phone or had one hard wired to your car) we used CBs to find people and meet up. The only place I see them used now is in semis or on the trail.

Gotcha! Unfortunately, cell phones or mobiles as we call them are useless here outside populated areas. Satellite phones are OK for emergencies but expensive. For car to car comms in say a convoy or to contact the nearest farmer, CB is still the way to go.

Good luck with that but you would be making life much easier with ARB's little single CKMA12 rather than the twin. Even that is no easy install at least it wasn't for me. However, performance wise, the little single airs up four LT tyres on the car and two on the trailer without raising a sweat. Nevertheless, if you can get the twin in, you won't regret it. ARB make a top product. You'll be able to air up the entire convoy.

Thanks, I got it new but didn't pay anywhere near full retail price for it. I am just waiting to buy my sPOD before continuing with the install. Should have it installed in the next few weeks

Re: New ARB Compressor Install WK2

Was musing about the twin; I've found the single gets really hot if I'm airing up when coming back off the beach (airing all 4 tires up from around 10psi). I actually melted the cheap air line that came with the ARB since the compressor got too hot one date. I've since gotten a tougher line. Not sure where I would put it, though. The single is ok for topping off or airing a single tire from a flat. It's just slow, but that's the cost for it's small size.

I have a CB and actually find it pretty useful for cruising on the highway: the truckers can give you a heads up about cops, accidents, traffic, directions, etc. Some of the comentary can be pretty funny too.

For CB location, I explored different options, but ended up just putting it on the center dash, above the radio. I got one of those "sticky mats" for coffee mugs, which does a surprising job keeping it in place. Since the radio isn't attached, it's easy to unplug/hide it if I need. And no damage/holes in the dash.

Mat was something like this:

Where did you mount the antenna? Any photos you can show us? Thanks!

I put a K40 magnetic mount on the roof near the shark fin antenna. The cable fits easily alongside the passenger side of the lift gate (in the rain channel). It enters the cargo area above the rear bumper, running along the passenger side of the cargo area (never any problem with the lift gate closing -- there's soft and wide weather stripping that easily accommodates the cable). It then runs into the rear seat split, under the rear floor mats, on the floor along the transmission hump and it surfaces by the front passenger seat seat belt socket. It then goes in the pre-molded cable channel under the center arm rest (the channel faces the passenger side front seat).

I use a Midland handheld (all the guts are in the mike), so all I have to do is attach the antenna on the roof mount, screw the antenna cable into the CB dongle, and good to go. It was easy to tune the antenna, and there's no need to re-tune each use.

No, no difference here, it's just my aging brain. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. All along I'm reading cb but thinking uhf. Apologies to all those that I've now utterly confused.
