I believe so. I had my first change at 6K miles, before the warning went off. It did not ding at me again until 7500 miles later (which would be when it would notify me, given a reset at the last change and a 8000 mile interval).

Actually, it makes a lot of sense. No extra components are required (so it's cheaper) and it doesn't need special hardware (like a scan tool) in order to reset it. It is also a procedure that is unlikely to be performed by accident... you aren't going to turn the vehicle on (but not started) and pump the gas pedal unless you're trying to do so.
We just traded off an Acura that, as near as I can tell, had no ready way for the owner to reset the maintenance indicator. No procedure in the manual or anything- if you did your own oil change, you're on your own. Not so sure about the Infiniti we took delivery on this morning, but with the service plan, I won't be working on it anyway.
