Re: Passenger side Blend door gear replacement

Thanks from another Ohioian, Had to replace passenger side have 71,000 miles on mine. Dealer had to order it and when I picked it up I asked him if they sold many and his reply was no. Great pictures!! Is the drivers side very hard to get to or haven't you replaced it. Thanks again

Re: Passenger side Blend door gear replacement

The driver side is a bit more cramped due to the metal heater core lines being routed very close to the HVAC sub assembly and the actuator. There is also the plastic plumbing for the floor vent, which splits into 2 halves that also needs to be removed to gain some access room. I'd suggest performing the repair on a cold engine.

On my 2011, I had to replace the passenger side gear twice and the driver side once. I see quite a few passenger side gear failures. Driver side is not as common.

Excellent write up brother!... I was wondering what the loud clicking was and figured it had to be hvac related... Not to mention the wife has been pissed that she's not getting heat lol... Any chance you have OEM part numbers? Or is it easy to find?

I don't remember the part number but it is a pretty easy find

Did you ever figure out the clicking sound?... I have the same thing but the weather has been so shitty I haven't had the opportunity to try replacing the gear yet and if it doesn't solve the problems I want to know what else to suspect

Re: Passenger side Blend door gear replacement

Just experience same issue and sure enough, the gear was broken when I removed it. Is there any advise on how to line up the new one? I see an arrow on the housing (not on the gear) but I'm not sure if it's there for alignment purposes or not.

Opps, nevermind, I now see that it's splined to only go on a certain way.

Re: Passenger side Blend door gear replacement

Well, went to dealership to pick up a new gear and the only one they had in stock was already broken in the bag. that's just how fragile these stupid parts are, they break in a sealed bag during handling/shipping. My dealer has already sold 5 of them this year, so obviously this is a very common failure. I just ordered 2 more from the warehouse and they should be here tomorrow.

I also have this problem. The gear is broken and when I removed the actuator and checked its operation the shaft always turned to the right. This is whether you are asking for heat or cold. Could this be correct? Learning a lot about Jeeps on this site.
Thanks

Re: Passenger side Blend door gear replacement

That's correct. I ordered the actuator and gear from Amazon for about $35. The how to replace part at the front part of this thread is dead on. Took me about 30 minutes. I think I could do the next one in a lot less time. Be careful not to over tighten the actuator.
