Permanently disable the Auto Start/Stop feature

I've strongly professed my displease about the Auto Start/Stop to Jeep and they have been giving me cookie cutter answers. "The Auto Start/Stop feature can be disabled by pressing the Auto Start/Stop disable button when the vehicle is running".

I absolutely hate this feature because of the many issues I've had with it while driving. The system seems hap-hazzard and runs like it was programmed last minute.

Has anyone found a way to permanently disable it yet? I know the computer checks the disable switch when it first turns on, so I cannot hardwire it to be closed at all times. I am thinking about adding a timed relay in line with the button contacts that will automatically turn the switch high after a delay when the vehicle starts up.

I am willing to bet that the switch is on the can-bus system so it may be harder than I hope to override.

Yes, some good news!

After several weeks of work, I have created a prototype OBDII module that memorizes the last STOP-START OFF setting and restores it when you turn on the ignition on your 2016 or 2017 3.6 liter Grand Cherokee.

I expect to start shipping them in October or November.
There is a sign-up sheet on my website so I can gauge the size of the initial production run.

It also memorizes and restores the state of the SPORT button!

Here is the sign-up website: www.smartstopstart.com. There is no cost or obligation to sign up for notification of availability.

There is a video demo there also (sorry the audio is slightly out of sync, I need to redo it).

Although I won't need it with the HEMI, I always like to see innovative people solve problems.

SIGNING UP NOW!!!!

This is awesome! I looked into how that sensor works, and yes, it is on the CAN bus so any type of hotwiring it would only work for that cycle. Your plug in would be perfect and less intrusive. I also sent a second complaint into Jeep just to add to their "numbers". The answer yet again was that this is a fuel economy feature that "cannot" be changed. I call BS.

Thanks again, and I am looking forward to any updates!

My Stop-Start stopped working and I think that it is because of the Sprint Booster that I installed. That is the only mod I have done to my 2016 Summit.

The best solution I've found for my 2017 GC is the plug in module found at Smart Stop Start - Home. It costs $125 and just plugs into your maintenance jack by the parking brake peddle. Installs in about 3 seconds. It remembers your last ECO, ESS, and SPORT settings so you don't have to push the buttons each time you restart your jeep. If you want to change the settings just press the button(s) and it will remember the new settings. Well worth the money, given the annoyance factor of this poorly thought out design. Especially when your AC shuts off at each red light in the Texas summer! ESS = Exceedingly Stupid System

NOTE: You can disable the ESS buy disconnecting your open hood sensor but this will also disable your remote start feature. The delay stop settings in your settings menu are for your radio and lights not the engine.

Hi All,
I'm thinking about buying one of the SS bypass modules. I'm a little hesitant because of the price and I wouldn't mind hearing from some users as to their satisfaction with the purchase and performance of the unit. . Also, if anyone has bought one and then sold their vehicle or not using it for some other reason, and wants to sell it,I would be interested. All replies appreciated, Thanks

I know nobody wants to hear this but if you creep up to a stop and don't stop abruptly the ESS will not engage. Not always possible or convenient but just thought I would throw it out there. Been doing it quite often lately. I like the idea of ESS for saving gas but I don't like the possible ramifications it could have on the engine, starter and transmission.

I've had mine since I bought the Jeep in March and love it. Set it and forget it, ECO stays off as well.

man I wish I could afford one of these. My daughter has been in the hospital for 11 months now though and every dollar is accounted for. I must say I LOATH the start stop crap. It's almost gotten me in accidents to top it all off. If you stop quickly and then try to take off almost immediately you're stuck there like a deer in headlights. I've stopped and it not shut off before and then as soon as I want to go to turn left at a flashing red arrow the thing shuts off and i'm delayed going. Not enough of a delay to register in my head that the chance is gone but just enough to confuse you and you either have to slam on the gas or give up after moving slightly forward and almost in traffic. It's terrible. I wish there was a cheap alternative to get rid of it.

Any long term updates regarding the modules reliablity and if it has affected any other function on the vehicle, throwing codes, etc. The web site advises to remove the module if you take you car in for service. Anyone have feedback from a dealer regarding the device? Thanks in advance.

No issues over the past couple months. Dealers will tell you aftermarket washer fluid will void the warranty so I'd never waste my time trying to explain this to them, most service advisors are clueless. Just pull it if you bring it in. I just had the oil changed and didn't but nothing was said.

Disconnecting the hood switch also disables remote start.

Better options are either living with the Govt mandated "feature" (mandated because FCA gets credit for it to help meet CAFE standards or spring for the smart stop/start module.
